  • Rx Lipo

    Hi all,

Moved over to HV on this model, and would like to get it re set up and ready for winter. About to order a Futaba S3072HV for the throttle. Only thing needed now is the 2S Rx LiPo.

Which one do you guys use that you've found balances the CG correctly?

    Cheers!
    Harry

I don't have any experience specific to the TT G4, but for 2s LiPos for powering the FBL and servos on my helis I just use nice cheap Hobbyking batteries. In this low demand duty there is no need for high performance high c rate batteries. I have used these with good results: ZIPPY Compact 2200mAh 2S 35C Lipo Pack (UK Warehouse)
But for the duty pretty much any standard LiPo of the size you need will do fine, no point paying a fortune for fancy brand names. I avoid any 'Rx specific' packs that have small JST connectors on the output because JST is only rated for about 3-5A.

Oh God aye. I always use Deans or XT60 for main power connections, especially now I'm using 5 HV servos on a large 90 size model.

Anything will work on a G4 Harry but I personally used the Gens Ace 5000mah rx packs on mine as they weren't much heavier than an average 2000mah pack.

yeah that's what I used to have but sold them when I ditched the regulator. They seem hard to get ahold of now, but I know it's what I'd get if I could get them cheap.

Personally i don't see the point of getting a pack much larger than 2200mAh. 2200mAh will easily give you 6 flights, in fact up to 9 in my experience. At £7 each you can have a couple if you want more flights. LiPos dont like being stored in a high charge state so if using a large LiPo you usually end up having to discharge down to storage after a session which is just hassle.

A little weight isnt a massive issue on larger helis but even it does all make some difference and a 2200mAh is about 100g lighter than a 5000mAh.

                But each to their own.

Is the futaba plug that connects the 2S power to the FBL rated higher then 3 to 5 amps or is there another way of connecting power to the FBL? If the G4 is as tail heavy as an X50E then you might need something heavier than a 2S 2200mah. I use a Flight Power 3300mah. Big ole heavy thing.

No, a standard JR/Futaba servo plug is generally considered good for only 4 or 5 amps continuous, but even at that they get warm and you drop a bit of voltage.

Which was my point about the Gens Ace 5000's, they're not heavier than the average 2000. As for leaving them charged there is zero difference leaving a 5000mah pack charged as a 2000mah pack charged, i've had the Gens 5000's i've got for a long time now and they've done a lot of flying and never storage charge them with zero issues. RX packs are taking very little abuse in reality.

So what would be the problem using a Lipo fitted with a JST connector. It's rated the same as the futaba plug that powers the FBL.

They are heavier. The spec says 200g for the 5000mAh. My 2200 is 110g

The point about being charged is that a big battery will usually still be at a high state of charge after a typical flying session. A smaller battery is more likely to be close to storage voltage... but that does depend how much you fly obviously.

To be honest the biggest advantage is that the 2200 is less than 1/3rd of the cost!... (plus a bit lighter and considerably smaller)
