Raptor E550S on a whim

Ordered one of these Saturday night on a whim from Midland thinking I wouldn't get it for at least a week
if not then it would be after Christmas because of the post,
It turned up today plus a 5000 battery from HK UK
Guess I'll have to put it together now,

I was looking for something a bit bigger than my 500 and didn't want to spend to much or go 700 size because of batteries etc.
The T-rex 600 and 550 combos were way to much money to part with for the amount of electric flying I will do, plus I'm not a fan of them anyway.
when I came across the R e550s it looked just right for what I needed, and its a Raptor, which I'am a fan of.
Haven't see much written about them so don't know what they're like, if its as nice to build and setup as all the other Raptors I've done,,,
I'm looking forward to flying it and will do a small write up after I've had a few flights,

I agree, you don't hear much about this model but imo it looks very nice and excellent value for money. (can't beat a Raptor of any kind!)

A friend of mine drew my attention to it and looks very good for the money, bit of new+parts bin but that's no bad thing, seems to fly very well standard.

Just taken it out the box, and typical TT its all there, packed really well and quality looks very good,
I have plenty of Raptor spares and yes they've used some old parts, but at least you know they work well.
Not sure about the decal colour, that's easy changed to Titan or se colours, although it is starting to grow in me,,
Have to see what its looks like in the air before I change it,

Had an E620 raptor for a while. Beautiful flyer, really locked in and flew on rails. Had some very bad luck with it cutting out mid flight and causing a couple of crashes that made me lose faith in it.
In hindsight, should of realised it was probably the crappy castle ESC I had fitted, and kept the heli and changed out the ESC. Switched over to mikado now, but still occasionally think about getting another raptor E

Some time ago, probably about a year and a bit ago, there was one for sale in the BMFA and I kept seeing it and was really tempted but that was when I was resisting anything electric larger than the 500.

I also bought a Raptor E550S in the Christmas sales. At under £400 it has to be cracking value for money. OK its not the latest carbon wonder toy and as a club member pointed out to me at the field today the tail rotor gearbox design is well over 10 years old. But what the hell!!!! it works great and flies superb. 7 minutes of very smooth aerobatics from a 5000mAh lipo with 30% charge left cant be too bad either. Top marks to TT for another top model.....Whens the new 620 due out?

Yes i agree they are a nice heli.
My kit was also criticized yet again by somebody at the field yesterday, he said the Align DS650 tail servo on my Raptor is rubbish and they don't work and when i said i was considering buying an X50E, he said that Thunder Tiger are stuck in the past and old fashioned. Obviously hasn't seen an X50 or G4 up close then!!!
