Check to make sure the belt wasnt double twisted which would cause the teeth of the belt to engage each other. I can't really think of anything else that would cause the boom to move forward.

One more possibility after looking at the tail damage. Always check your tail blade cg and weight. A bad set of tail blades could have created a high frequency vibration which broke the tail pitch link. After that, the remains of the tail pitch link hit the tail bell crank mount which caused an immediate stop of the tail hence causing the boom to move forward. The tail hub probably broke while the loose blade was oscillating. The boom moving forward I just can not imagine.

Thanks matt for the replies. I will take great care when rebuilding and i will be buying top end blades again as you suggest on synergy website.
Whilst flying the tail was super locked in with a very responsive feel. There was no visible or audible vibration. I was very suprised with how quiet the belt drive is.
Just a shame it happened, im not put off by this happening and cant wait to get the funds to put it back together and try again.

Only off putting thing is the prices everything seems to be £10 or £23 to replace. Even to replace the skids comes to about £25 which is mega expensive.

        roll on pay day.

Ian consider using Trex600 skids and pipes. I've just bought Jamiems and they're fitted with them, just redrill the braces to suit.

May eventually do that as I definitely need to practice the autos more, the thought of tipping the heli over

Very unlucky luck with this mishap Ian, get it back up soon mate.

+1 for the Trex 600 skids, I had to do my very first auto on the N5 and it does glide very nicely, but still i was glad to have the extra width.

When I built my N5 I set the belt up very slightly tight to allow for 'bedding in'. After 10 flights I heard the belt teeth rubbing while doing an auto and noticed the auto hub had locked up. I assumed the boom had moved but after freeing the hub and polishing the sleeve down to 11.98mm then readjusting the boom, took it out again on Sunday and 5 mins into the first flight the belt teeth were rubbing again. Haven't touched it since but in the nice warm house the belt is tight again and the teeth dont touch when i spin the head. I guess the difference down to temp. Will try again this weekend.
                              Cheers

Not sure about the tail blade pic and the metal kinda looks wrong.

Any ideas how to get the main shaft out as the belt gear is locked solid and im worried about breaking something else or marking it.
a couple of other bits to add to list

                                main shaft
                                jesus bolt
belt gear (may have to break it to get it off)
                                feather shaft

                                £££££ its going up. lol
