  • Not just you having trouble.

Seems the Synergy and me are not meant to be.

A word of warning if building your N5

I would rough up the mating sufaces on the boom as mine has just slipped and wrecked the heli.

My bolts were tight and the belt was not overtight.

Boom has slipped at the front and the rear causing £130ish of damage not including the V blades.

Starting to miss my trusty align 600.

I did take my time with the build and followed all instruction to the letter, even looked at build tips on synergy website. Hope it wasn't build error. There was no noise or vibration in the tail, nothing was binding either.

Oh well another trip to fast lads required.

Ahhhh!!..Bugger!! Sorry to hear about the N5 going in Ian!!

Seems strange that both front and back clamps slipped! Were the clamps fully tightened? Particularly on the bolts that go the the split portion of the clamps?
    Thanks!

Jamie gave me a tip to pin the boom between the 2 clamps and do all the adjustment from the tailbox as the boom can slip forward and do what it sounds like it has done Ian. A real shame these little tips haven't made it onto Synergys website though, along with an up to date manual (a better manual would be welcome too) a description of head geometry etc etc etc.

What damage did it do Ian?

        Damn dude!

I can assure Ian took his time on building this carefully! Especially the time we took to check it over last weekend, and then, your engine cuts and now to hear this .

Ian is it a 55 cutting by any chance? I don't think it matters that your careful with the build Callum it's just possible for the boom to slip forward.

True Indeed! It's a right shame though

What happened to your Srimok's? Thought Asid gave you one and you also had an E listed in your sig?

Strange that your boom slipped Ian, mine never ever slipped in over 100 flights. Take (whats left of?) the boom out of the clamps and make sure you didnt over tighten it. If you did, there will be crush marks on the boom around the 4 clamps - I had this on an N9 boom on a machine I bought 2nd hand, and resulted in the boom twisting in flight.

big thanks to matt botos who has just emailed me in double quick time asking the cause. In all fairness i wish i knew.

I checked every bolt and I mean EVERY bolt last week and today, all was fine. Even after the event i asked two club members to come over and watch me check the bolts and all was tight. I even had to slacken off the bolts in order to twist the tail assembly to the proper angle as this twisted in impact of the floor.

                        damage so far is

                        Main gear
                        skids
                        skid pipes
                        boom
all tail components (may be able to use grips again)
                        tail fin
                        tail belt idler
                        flybar
                        kbdd paddle
                        v blades main
                        v blades tail
                        main blade grip pitch arm.

Im yet to strip it and check over properly but i feel more will be found.

                        Bloody hobby love it.

If it was that tight, then I'd suggest that maybe something on the tail locked up big time, causing the belt to wrench the boom inwards. Possibly even the belt was loose and snagged on its own teeth?
