  • Squeaky tail belt

While fitting an Align 2in1 to my N5 I notice a squeak coming from the tail end.
On inspection I found the tail guide roller wasn’t turning,
I released the locating bolt a couple of turns and it rolled with the belt smoothly.
The guide roller had a slight scuff mark on it but I don’t think its a problem and the belt looked ok, have to wait and see on the next flight.

It did get me thinking I must have flown with it like that and could be why I thought the 55 seemed a bit down on power,
    Think its something worth checking,,
I also noticed if you rotate the main blades anti clockwise the belt starts rolling of the rear sprocket enough to go under the guide roller flange,
I’m sure the belts tight enough,, is this a Synergy thing?

Sent an email to Matt Botos today re oiling the tail belt, his reply:

    Hello Peter,

    Use silicon spray.
I would stay away from petroleum based oils as they can eat into rubber.
I have used WD-40 in the past with some success but now use silicon
    spay.

    Thanks!

    Matt

I noticed this also with that particular bolt - when done up good it doesn't roll with the belt. I haven't flown it tight but I did wonder why it was loose as I said I did work out why .

      Thanks for the bump.

I think what happened was after I'd built the heli and double checked everthing was tight I must have nipped it up without thinking
        Still we live and learn

Was very nice of Matt. Some people may think he's only doing it to keep his name - regardless he still replied and took time to write a good responce .
