N5 - The Build

Guys,

Can you tell when doing the build, are you completely stripping down all the assemblies and re-doing with fresh loctite including things like the bellcrank balls etc...??

Personally I tried to undo every ball and bolt. If it was tight to und oand clearly had loads of locktite, I just tightened it back up. There was only 2 places that had locktite missing that should have had; the anti rotation bolt and bearing on the swash, and the tail hub on to the tail shaft. Check these carefully

I have been doing in most places although have been fearful getting the balls out as there have been several stories of them shearing in the swash etc..

They seem to come out ok though after 30 secs with the tip of a soldering iron to break the bond.

Think I probably found 4 or 5 places where loctite hadn't been used so they at very least all need checking

Guys,

New to Heliaddicts so appreciate the quick replies (my N5 is still on order, have to have one from the next batch of kits).

I have read Raptorheli2 comments about his build and views about things like skids and paddles etc - do you agree?

Have you had a chance to fly, and how was the N5 - I've already put a 50% down payment on one so fully committed, just curious to here from those that already have one.

david, my views on the skids is only my opinion, they are perfectly functionable. i just think they are too narrow.

the paddles my mate also has broken his tonight he told me. i wouldn't let that be a deal breaker though. just get a decent set and fly it.

i'm flying again tomorrow so i'll have more time then to fix a couple of niggles and report back.

Thank you very much, can you recommend paddles - I would ideally like a degree of stability in a hover without pitching in forward flight.

Well mines pretty much done now as well, Just need to fit the rx and muffler and say a few prayers for less wind tomorrow!
All in all a pretty good build for a first batch model, it would be nice if everything was perfect from the start but this is after all the real world!

Paul - Glad to see parcelforce delivered and i'm with you on the canopy

David - Personally i checked every single one, but if it stuck it stayed!

yes phil, got the kits fine mate.

looking forward to fixing the little niggles tomorrow. i'm a big synergy fan and hope i can get this dialed in nicely.

anyone else got one running? what paddles, blades and mixing options are you using?

With everything sounds like you like it..

Think the idea is not to thread lock anything in the future.. just assemble finger tight, via the factory.

They knew you was going to get that kit so they left some bits out...

Are the bolts missing off the other kit for the grips?

UC was sized to keep the CG as close to axis as possible but any 50 UC should fit.. So personal preference is just cool.

As far as the battery tray, gone has the days of large battery backs to counter the tail weight, seems a 1800 battery is all is needed.. and the way things are going, it will be one battery, a box that holds everything and a few leads to the servos in the not too distance future.

Canopy:
I do like the shape and the colours OK, finish Quality is as good as the rest of the model, just brilliant

LOL, think until its in your colours, it wont be cool for you ..Hee Hee

Swash:

After the swash in the USA, did you heat each point as you removed?

not finger pointing, just checking if there is a best way to remove..

Compared the 1st N9 release it better in every way posible, Great kit and simple design to build.

no threadlock would be best option i think, easy fix at factory for batch 2

thanks for info on the UC size. it's a very strong UC and is a definite improvement over the original N9 ones in terms of strength.

the battery tray i agree with you. i was only saying in case anyone was thinking of putting a gv1 and 611 on there.....good luck with it.

canopy is personal taste. i'm one of a few that liked the original 700 canopy over the v2 ones canomod released so that maybe tells you all you need to know.

comparing the N9 first batch to this one. there is no contest at all on that one. for a first batch kit it really was not bad at all. as always the 2nd batch guys will get the better deal for a bit of patience. as phil says above we can't expect first batch helis to be bang on and i'm perfectly happy with mine out the box bar that swash which is just one of those things i doubt anyone else will have.

lastly the biggest thing in its favour for me is it's not an align.

Paul, just building up an N5 here with Mattie Lodge, I'm with you on the undercart.... can see that being the cause of many a tip over when stretching out an auto. That aside the rest of the kit seems very nice so far, only about half built though at this stage.

Might do a bit of research into possible options on the undercarriage - could someone tell me an approximate overall width of the N5 undercarriage, and also the skid pipe diameter?

Outer frame width= 30mm
Mounting hole centre to centre= 36mm
Skid tube diamter= 8mm
Skid centre to skid centre= approx 160mm

Thank you very much, that is quite narrow but also similar to my Vibe 50 skids - they are around 174mm centre to centre of each skid tube, but the mounting holes are 77mm apart.
