    after a calm second look

Hi I have just had a cup of tea and chilled out a bit and taken a different approch I am saying that there is compression but having not played with one of these before i not so sure weather there is enough???
i have just turned the engine over by hand an whilst looking down the carb I can see gasses blowing passed the ring so i removed the barrell and taken a close look and it seems that the wear on the cylinder is not consistant as if the cylinder may be kind of ovall as I can still see honing marks on some areas and not on others.
Having got this second hand my thinking is that may be its been overheated or not run in properly or its just a crap engine.
    thanks
    Ian

It would still run even if you are getting some blow by - does it feel lumpy when you crank it over - if it does then there is probably enough compresion to run.

        Try this.

Get syringe and take the spark plug out - get some fresh petrol ie less than a week old and make a 2 stroke mix - put about 5 mls of 2 stroke mix down the plug hole - stick the plug back in as quick as you can and try to start it. If you get a brief burst of life its a carb issue causing your problem. If you dont get a burst of life then its an ignition issue.

When you have tried the above post the results and we can narrow it down.

If you have got fuel, air and a spark it WILL run !!!

Dont give up mate - we will get it going and you will look back at this and smile

Hi,yes I have tried this and is still the same which seems to make me think that it is a compression issue as I
Have timmed the engine from 30 btdc all the way to tdc with a new Cdi unit and pick up.
I have spent ages playing with this and just remembered I have a wife 2 kids and a dog so I am going to put in my things to do box for another day.
            Thanks again.
