As far as i am aware the you as the pilot have authority over cyclic not the controller,the controller wont suddenly decide to throw full cyclic unless there is something wrong with it,vibes maybe or you asked for it.(well it shouldnt anyway

Moving the cyclic a bit or a lot gives the controller an idea of the rotational rate you are asking for if you move it a bit and the model is on the ground it simply does not keep increasing the swash tilt until the model moves,try it and see on the bench.

as you have made it out to be, personaly i think your accident was due to 1 of 2 things poorly setup controller~mechanics or faulty controller none of my flybarless helis have ever fallen over on the skids !
