  • Ballistic Lipo size?

What size lipos are people running in Ballistics?

I've been looking at the Hayin 6s lipos in either 4000mah or 5000mah. Align-trex has the 5000mah for £50 each for the non-branded ones, or Electriflyer has the 4000mah for about the same price.

Not sure which size to get TBH, am I going to loose a lot of flight time if I go with the lighter, smaller capacity lipos?

I use Opti 5000 30c. I had issues getting the Opti 50c to fit as they are slightly wider. They probably will fit with some messing. But the 30c 5000 work great for me i have to say

It obviously depends on what HS you are running and what your flying style is like. I am running 2050. I get about 4.30 with aggressive flying. Less aggressive i get about 6 mins

Optipower 5000 30c , same again 4.30 minutes for me or 6 if your not aggressive also the 50c ultras but as above there abit tight on the wiring going in but ok once you get the jist if loading them , also have a pair of 4500 hayin packs which come down the same as the 5000 30c due to power to weight.

Just curious, have you guys tried similar rated packs but around 3800 / 4000mah ? (or the Opti 4300s)

The thing is, you have more total amp output (and capacity) with 5000mah packs but you have more weight as well.

I have been running 5000mah packs in my 700 size helis previously but this year I'm going to experiment with lower headspeeds and smaller packs and see if I can find a suitable combination that works with something a bit smaller.

Tried the opti 4300 packs yes only run 1950 to 2050 myself , they don't need much headspeed but I'm nearly a minute down on flight time compared to the 5000 if I'm pushing it

I use 4400 packs in my E700 which is already a very light machine. I run about 2000. I get 4 mins aggressive flying and 5 if not pushing it.

I think the extra weight makes the Ballistic feel more planted in the air and due to this i find the power curve somewhat more predictable compared to the lighter E700, especially in the wind.

I certainly would not go smaller than 4400 on any 700 size heli personally. 5000 is the sweet spot for me.

I couldn't make do with such short flights. I get 5:30-6 on my Fusion 50 running 2250, and about the same on my Rush using 5000s.

So the Haiyin 5000mah would be better than the 4000mah by the sound of it. I'm only sport flying but wondered if having the heli lighter would have benefits. I'd like a good flight time though. I miss the 9minute flight times I used to get with my TT360

What head speed are you running on the Rush Harry? For a min i thought you were saying you run the Rush at 2250 also and get 5.30-6. Which would be some fantastic flight times But I'm assuming you run the Rush a bit lower HS wise?

Well it's not too different at 2200; it's only at that because that's what ALeeS recommend. I certainly don't need it at my level. I may drop it to 2000 to get some more flight time.

Flip me!!!! 5.30-6 running 2200 on a 700 size machine? That is pretty darn good flight times.

I used to run my X7 at 2250 and be lucky to get 3.30 using 5000 packs

To be fair, it's probably nearer 5:15, as my timer includes spooling up, and I usually make sure I'm on the deck back in Thr hold on or before the timer. My packs are almost always at 20-25% on the checker as well.

5 mins plus is still pretty good running that much HS imo. Interesting stuff.

Next time I'm out I'll see if I can borrow a tach, and I'll time my flights and report back with the fuel level left etc.

4000's for me personally Pete in my 700's, if I were buying more packs id probably up that to 4300 ish. 5000's in the tests we have done didn't yeild much longer flight times but just added weight which some people will prefer but for me I prefer the lighter machine and as a Ballistic 635 is a little on the chunky side for a 600 as, apart from the thinner frames and shorter boom, it shares all other parts with the 700's (which is the reason I stretched my 635 to 700 as it's then becomes a light 700)
Impossible to get a definitive answer to the question of pack size as there is so many variables and each person, flight style and heli will be different.
