  • crashed!!!! dam that tail!!!!!

    gave her abit of a beating and the tail gave up completely, was stuck in a reasonable piro, brought her down as slow as i cld but had to hit the thottle hold at bout 5foot up, lost a main blade and bent the boom abit, part from that shes fine, just checked her over and everything is working, even the tail mech was fine, must of just got stuck!!!

    Hard luck mate...

    Maybe selling some B400 bits will help to pay for the repairs!!!

    All the best

        The 401 is still a damn good gyro, there are better out there but it's still good enough for mild 3D.

                    Has anyone mentioned static yet ?

                    It was the cause of my weird electrical hell, and my G5 is going to see some grapihte paste before it sees any air...

                      AIUI, damp mitigates, rather than eliminates, the effect of static build-up.

                      That might mean you don't see problems you see in the dry; or they might take longer to occur; or they might not be as serious.

                      I'd eliminate the possibility of static as it's (IME) cheap & easy to do, and the effects can be serious and unpredictable.

                        never seen static on my G5, the CSM 720 detects static hits and I've not seen it flash it's light to show that one has occured. Static has never really been much of a problem on 450 class, seem to be just 500s that get it real bad.

                          Thanks. What do you use and where can I get it. I expect it's cheaper than even 1 crash. How do you know when you've had a static problem? My wife sess I sufer from static.

                            I've heard it said static is more of a problem on big helis - but it was a problem on several GAUI 100s of mine.

                            In my case, it seemed to be the tail belt acting like a Van der Graaf generator.

                            I don't know if there are other effects on bigger helis (like the heli tail-boom acting like a lightning conductor ?)

                            Anyway, graphite paste on the belt took this GAUI EP 100 SE Pro from being completely unreliable (might not spool up; might lock-up after several packs; might glitch; might lose motor power part way through 1st pack) to rock-solid reliable.

                            Hence my G5 is going to get a little paste on the belt to be on the safe side.

                              Oh yes...

                              How do you know when you've had a static problem?
                              This is the hard part, as the symptoms are sporadic.

                              On Spektrum AR66100Es & AR6200s, both with & without Quick Connect, I saw:

                              Partial lock-up;

                              Rx had a fit (weird LED patterns, like the Rx was continously re-init-ing);

                              Glitches (tail or cyclic twitches; ESC shut-down);

                              What was characteristic, though, was that a QC Rx would show an LED pattern suggesting a quick re-conect had occurred (eg due to a brown-out). Sometimes this LED pattern would show without a mishap. (This was usually a pre-cursor to a crash...)

                              On an AR6200, you'd also get an LED pattern that wasn't in the manual. IIRC, the main Rx would flash like it had done a quick re-connect, but the remote receiver's LED was solid.

                              [I'd already gone down the path of high spec (CC25 ESC on an EP100) electric gear, measuring currents, etc.]

                              In short, weirdness and weird LED behaviour.

                              Graphite paste (which Brin badgered me into trying), the LEDs & QC are my friends.
