Building your own heli is ESSENTIAL! That way when you crash you will be able to fix it - It also helps your flying if you understand how the heli works.

I have just ordered the flybarred version :-o. Ooooooh I hope it comes with an orange towel! :-) Ordinarily I wouldn't expect any oils or grease or adhesives or locktight, they usually just expect you to have those. But we shall see what's in there. Hopefully I'll have it in the next few days.

Have you never taken something apart to find out what's inside and then put it back together? Have you worked on your car for example? Did you buy it in kit form? No it is not ESSENTIAL to start with a kit, you just need the manual.

Why did you go for the flybar?

Marketing has dictated with most models that the flybarless version costs more even though it contains fewer parts. On top of that is the small matter of then having to purchase the fbl controller.

I bought it from the Spartan online store. I gather they have some left from when their distribution was handling them but they are no longer involved in the distribution so they're selling the last ones they have. I got the flybarred version because I like the Outrage flybarred heads, it's a very good rotorhead with lots of choices to tune it to fly like I want. I currently have the 550 and it's essentially the same head. Plus, it's very easy to convert to FBL because the grip arms can just be replaced, remove the flybar and seesaw and swap the washout assembly for a swash driver. I'll build it up flybarred first and then have a think about going FBL later.

So basically what I am doing is just moving everything from the 550 over to the Fusion airframe because the Fusion is much better thought out and a much more logical design. I'll run it with 550mm blades to start with so that my power setup doesn't have to be changed and then maybe think about going 12s or something later and go with the longest blades that will fit.

Lee, you have to decide whether to go Lv (6S) or Hv (12S). The ESC you have listed would be normal for an Hv setup. You would need more for the Lv, not sure but you'd be looking at a 120 or so.

Do a little research into the above choice. The Fusion is a nice machine, Nick flew his originally on 10S and said it had more than enough power.

I'm going to sound a numpty but what does LV and HV mean?

                    Edit
Is it high and low voltage?

If so I'd go low because of the price of the batteries!
If I can fly it using a one 6s battery that would be great

I wouldn't buy (or even be given) a GP780. Do yourself a favour and buy one of these for £50 instead Spartan :: Bargain Corner :: Spartan Quark (black plastic) [Reconditioned] Other than that, I'd buy the tail boom conversion for running 550mm blades, and I'd be a little bit dubious of running a 70A ESC. It's adequate, but only just. Align sell the same ESC with the Trex 500, which is much smaller and lighter.

Spartan also have the fly bar version of the Fusion for just £200. Newer kits too with the pinned tail case, so you can't lose. If I was rich, I'd buy one myself and run it as a 550.

EDIT: Link to the £200 Fusions - http://www.spartanrc.com/store/produ...=&bestseller=Y

Current fleet: Goblin Thunder Sport (700), Trex 700L, Logo 600, Specter 700, Henseleit TDR, V-Baaa control.
Next heli: I have pretty much everything I want. Maybe I'll upgrade some electronics or something.

The hobbywing 100A ESC is available closer to home from Robot Birds. For a 6S setup you will need a motor of 1000 to 1200 Kv. Motor choice could be the Align 600MX 1220 Kv, the Scorpion 4025-1100 or Scorpion 4020-1100. The 4020-1100 is the least powerful and will give you the longest flight times.
