10s or 12s with Pyro 650-62L

Hi,
I am now changing my Fusion power supply and I have a Pyro 650-62L (620kv) to utilize, I've had a replied email from Kontronik saying this motor will run on a 12s setup but has originally been designed for 10s, any suggestions to what I should go for 10s or 12s with this motor ???

I don't know the heli, but would assume that it depends on what size pinion gear you can use, do you have a choice?

12s means less amps for a given power so sounds good to me to work the ESC less. As long as you can drop the gearing to give a sensible head speed, as i think that motor is a notably higher Kv than say a trex 600efl motor, which runs 12s.

Or are you looking to get the head to 3,000rpm?

Theoretically, without a gearing change or efficiency losses, you're talking about a 20% increase in head speed. There is also the question of motor efficiency and will 12s move it off it's sweet spot and give less efficiency? That wouldn't be good.

Outrage Fusion 50
Kontronik Jive 80+ HV
Kontronik Pyro 650-620kv Long Shaft
Align 3GX
Align 610's & 650
Edge FBL 603's & 95's
Avant Aurora Carbon push rod (fits perfectly)
Outrage 600 conversion kit that optimizes the boom length for pilots wishing to run a max of 606mm blades
All black gears throughout

So as you can see it's just lipo's I need to make my mind up on, 10s or 12s with the 620kv Pyro

12s you will need a 12 tooth pinion and 10 s a 14 tooth pinion for an idle 2 headspeed of roughly 2200, 129t main gear i assume?

I've just got the stock pinion at the minute but I can order whatever I need up when I decide what lipo's I'm going for, I have the black 129t main gear.

As I don't have the lipo's yet which one would be better, 12s 12t pinion or 10s 14t pinion with the 620kv ???

I personally always prefere the 12s set up, easier to use the batts on other heli buts thats just my opinion.

To be honest I'm not that bothered if the lipo's are interchangeable, I was just after what people thought about running a 12s setup on the 620kv motor or if it would be better on a 10s as it's a slightly lower kv than a 12s setup is normally run on (560kv)

You might not be bothered now but in the future you could well regret that decision, but i guess a 10s set up would be the better option as you have more contact with the 14 tooth pinion

Is anybody running 10s on there Fusion and if so what Mah are your 5s packs ???

10s are normaly 4000's, 12s 3500's.
The bigger lipos are needed to give the longer flight times at the higher amp draw of 10s.

For my money, 12s. But thats just MHO.

6s packs have a lot of uses, heli and plank, which is a bonus. I think it also gives you more options on gearing and reduces current draw, which might give your batteries a longer useful life. The 12s on the trex 600 comes down remarkably cool.

Ok I'm going to go with 12s and hope the Pyro 620kv will be ok on it.
