You can buy the kit with or without the motor. The motorless kit is only £20 cheaper.

Now I've seen a Protos I'd not swap my 500 for one. I'll accept the extra weight and crash resistance thank you. Protos just looks too frail for me

Been there, done that and got the T shirt sadly! For me, the first crash = RIP

I doubt it at my level. Which probably goes for many people on here if they told/tell the truth rather than thinking they can tell the difference

If I did smash my 500 to bits it would be replaced currently with another 500 or an Atom as both will survive an average crash far better than the Protos. If you never/rarely crash I can see the worth in the Protos for the slight weight saving though

Do we fly to crash or fly to have fun? me i fly for fun!

Should we all buy Ford Ka's because they are safe ,tough and in a smash we can replace the bits for less than if we crashed a aston martin? Or get the aston martin because its serious fun and we like looks and the handling? .........?

sure crash's happen but it is a rare event im sure. Stuff any heli in hard and its a big bill or write off. but surely the flying experience out weighs the potential off a crash bill?

                          Ever heard of damage limitation?

No such thing with the Protos...crash and it's new kit time

I just like a little tiny bit of resilience thank you

Why do you think most would be 90 owners are looking at or buying the 700 not an Avro, Vibe, Aurora etc. 2 things, up front cost and crash cost. Mostly crash cost because they all know it will go in, whether it is once in its life or 10 times. Cost to repair is a major consideration and if everytime you have a ground altercation it means a new kit...no thank you

Well when those carbon frames and metal blade grips are released in january These Protos's will be a serious contender for those Trex 500 thingys !!!

I agree the Protos is a better flying model than the Trex 500. History shows that the best flying models are not always the most popular though, that is just the way it is.

I've seen and heard the stories of crashes causing model write-offs since I started flying heli and that is nearly 10 years now. So the Protos is no difference.

I can't see what the excitement is with knocking a model when you have no first hand experience of it.

Everyone should assess the pluses and minuses of any model they buy themselves and not be lead by the masses.

FYI, I crashed my Protos and it cost 15 UKP to fix!

I completly agree with the above. Its no wonder Align have the market sewn up...there is normally a queue of people waiting to buy Align's latest release before anyone has flown it. Don't get me wrong, I like Align models (i have two of them), but by the time you have replaced the cheap and nasty screws and bearings, along with the swashplate, they are not as cheap as they look at first glance

I agree that the Protos *might* be fragile in a crash, but its hardly expensive to repair

                                Cheers
