Hi all

Debating what new electric to get. Fed up with having to fly my 450's and struggling with the wind. I thought the 450's would improve my flying but they just feel like a toy. I need something that feels like a 50 and will react the same way. I know they won't be exactly but I need something I can fly on the way back from work that won't upset the neighbours! Can really only fly the nitros at the weekend. Does the protos main hub clamp to the main shaft i.e kasama heads or is it the one jesus bolt like the TT metal upgrade. Don't really want to upgrade for 3D. Whatever I get it will be thrashed! Trex 500.....protos. Even toyed with the century swift but I'm not paying nearly £200 for a lipo - I'm not that desperate! How well does the swift fly with 4s 3700mah packs or do I have to go to 6s to get the best out of it. Sorry for all the questions but I have to be sure. No more 450's for me!!

Today I received a free update pack of parts without even having to ask. I've bought plenty of "just released" new helis that have had some teething problems, but never had any free update parts before. Excellent service from MSH and RealRaptors.

I think if you want something that feels and reacts like a 50, you really need to buy a 50. The Protos/Trex500 sized models are a good step up from a tiddler, but still feel small, although IMO the wind is less of an issue. The Swift/Logo500 or 10 are the smallest models that I think give "big model" feel but you're going to be dissapointed if try to do 3D with any of these on a 4s3700pack. Something like a 6s4000 would be more suitable.

Question for you Protos owners..
As far as I'm aware, MSH make Gorilla gear, correct?

Are the Protos struts made from the same virtually unbreakable plastic?

I need something more flexible for my Atom. The stock ones break at the slightest bump. Auto'd it tonight and it ran out of steam no more than a foot off the floor and snapped one in half. I know it was cold today so this didn't help, but I'm not gonna wait till next summer to fly it again!

When I wrote off my protos the landing struts were about the only things that survived. PM me and you can have them if you would like them.

Just bought one from Fast lad with Scorpion motor. Jeese this thing is light it almost look like madness to intall a 1400watt motor but it's easy to see the design innovations to save weight.
Just a couple of points. The later kits have a tail mount that contains carbon like the mainframe and the included pinion is 15T not 18T. Mine is 15T yipee and I have a 14T on its way. to use on 6 cells with longer flight times.

the protos looks good in pictures it's even more stunning in the flesh.

To check out the tail mount I used a meter on the frame and got a reading but the tail mount is totally insular in this respect. I will need to run a wire inside the case from the tail bearing to the boom and earth the boom at the front as well. It seeems there's less of an issue with futaba 2.4 but I have had static on low humdity days in my little Honey bee King with the same rx. The static was hitting the tail servo. out with the anti static spray again.

Most of what I do is influenced by the weather exept building heli's ha ha

The best place for A123s is Dewalt packs from Ebay. A search for "dc9360", "de9360" or "dewalt 36V" usually finds them. Bear in mind that stuff from the US usually gets clobbered by customs.

7s A123 works pretty well in a Protos with the stock motor.

thanks for the pack info. I searched the other day and found none.

Because the Protos is so light it suits a 123's and of course you can fast charge them. Finding loose cells over here is a pain. I suppose I need 3 packs of 7 to give decent flight charge rato....

I have a Scorpion motor and esc in the protos just waiting for final bits to arrive (managed to destroy the tail grips and pitch fork before the blades even got put on) I suppose thats what happens at 4AM after an all night build. I was sure kicking myself for not paying attention.

I cannot wait to fly this thing i am looking for glider type big big moves in the sky and the sound of the motor and baldes without gear noise.

That yacht looks a bit French or maybe a Van De Stadt wheres the location looks like Cameret (fave stop going s into Biscay)..

Depends on your flying/blethering ratio, but I doubt you'd need three packs if you got some beefy charging gear. With a quarter hour recharge you could have one 5 minute flight every 20mins using just one pack. With two packs and two chargers you could pretty much fly all day.

You should be used to being up at 4am. Normally the words I hear at that time are "can't we get the afternoon tide?"
