  • Agile 5.5 on small packs?

Has anyone got a view on whether the Agile 5.5 will kill 4000mah packs if it was run on them?

Trying to decide if it'd be OK to run on 6s 4000mah Haiyin packs that I use on my Ballistic. The Agile I think is quite heavy looking at the specs. It's that or 12s 2650mah to use the other packs I have unless I buy new packs for it.

If they're 30C that's 120 amps. Unless you push it fairly hard you should be fine, most of the time you'll draw way less than that with only very brief peaks getting up in that range.

Yeah that's the ones. I just remember the 600esp being a pack killer, and even though the 5.5 is a bit smaller, it's not that much smaller and I'd be going down in lipo capacity too.

I've seen spikes of 140A on my Agile at 2300/2400rpm. That said, I'm talking 1/10th of a second, then it drops to a more normal level.

I get about 5:30 using 3500mah from a 5000mah pack using a mix of those head speeds. The current sensor and telemetry tells me to land after 3500, leaving 500 mah to play with coming in to land without breaking the 80% rule.

To use the 80% rule on 4000s, you'd have to leave 800mah in the pack, giving you a little less capacity than I normally use, but if you don't go crazy with the head speed you should be good for 4:30-5:00 minutes. You'll be lighter too, which will help.

I'm currently converting mine over to 12S, and will either use 2650s or 3300mah packs, as those are what I have for my 500.

Next heli: I have pretty much everything I want. Maybe I'll upgrade some electronics or something.

Yeah the original Trex 600 was considerably heavier and using 600mm blades. Even 550s are quite a bit shorter so less drag (and 520s obviously less drag still). But as always it depends on how hard you fly and what headspeed you run at. I think the Agile will be a little lighter than the Trex 550 on 4000mah packs, so the comparison is closer with the Trex 550.

The flying weight of an Agile 5.5 according to KDS is 3.5Kg though, which is the same roughly as an old 600ESP. There might be some weight saving by using an ESC with a decent BEC ( I'm assuming the official weight of both includes an RX pack ) but basically it's just blade size difference.

I'm beginning to think a 550 on lipos I currently have isn't going to work from a CoG or pack life point of view.

Mine weighs 2.78Kg, excluding packs, so 3.5Kg isn't far off. You're correct on the CG. I have 70g of lead stuck to the nose of mine, and I'm using quite heavy packs. A bulkier ESC will help with the CG. I'm running the Hobbywing 100A V3, but that will be a Castle ICE2 80A HV soon.

Don't forget though, when the Trex 600 was killing packs, good lipos came with 10C-12C discharge ratings!

I flew my 5.5 on packs as low as 3300 30c ones with stock KDS motor no problem 4 mins 3d.

Fellow member flies his 550 Dominator on same packs as do i still fly my Logo 550 on them.

                  4 minutes on a single 6s 3300 pack Chris?

You know it's funny, I asked the same question on HF and the replies from guys there are along the lines of only getting 3mins on 5000mah packs.

I think they maybe fly harder than I could possibly imagine to do that...

Yes one 6s 3300 pack low weight and low headspeed setup.

I am sure at our club we can knock a video up no problem.

That sounds a lot better. I don't need silly headspeeds for my extreme hovering so that sounds more promising. What setup were you using for ESC/BEC etc?

On my Agile it was Jive 100lv with KDS Motor,i sold the model to a fellow member so will try to get video of it,he has stock motor still but YEP ESC.

The 550 Dominator runs 730mx and Jive 80LV,my 550SX runs Jive 100 LV and pyro 650 103L motor.

Hopefully the 550 Dom owner (chopper1 will chime in)

Yeah that's what I'm thinking of doing, stock combo with a YEP ESC and vbar.
