  • Lockdown Henseleit TDR Re-build

I have always wanted to own a Henseleit heli from many years ago when I started flying, the first club I joined when most of us were flying Raptors I remember one of the members getting a 3DNT,it was incredible seeing one at that time compared with the other helis of that period. For me the Tdr is still one of the best looking helis around so when Maj had a airframe for sale recently I had to buy it.The intention was to throw it together and fly it but with recent events making flying out of the question and suddenly finding I had a lot of spare time on my hands I decided to completley rebuild it.I T-cutted and polished the carbon frames, polished all the alloy parts including all the frame bolts(sad I know)replaced 90% of the bearings and replaced a few other parts from Henseleit,I was surprised the amount of spares they still keep for this machine.Managed to pick up a brand new Align 750mx 530 and using a Align Esc,not my first choice but will have to do for the moment. So hopefully this TDR will go on flying for a few more years yet.

Looks great! And I see you have the Maj custom 'low-rider' skids. As I have run mine at low-ish headspeeds from the beginning, it has worked very well with an old style 750Mx / 450 and Jive 80 HV.

It's still an iconic design 10 years on. I think the first time I saw one in person was at an MK flyin and I finally got one in about 2014. I had a crash about a year ago and no trouble getting all the parts.

Beautiful looking Dave. You must have spent many hours working on that. Like Andy, I can't wait to see it in the air.

Are you going to add a bit to the frame like a couple of other places to prevent that motor lead chafing? Apart from that nit picking it's lovely
Yes the big sigpic is coming back

              Hi P4ddy,
Probably doesn't show up in the photos but there is rubber edge protection in the critical places.

                Hi Trillian,
Yes I was really glad Maj let me have a set of his 'low rider skid's,it really does finish of the heli.Have you ever run yours in a stretch configuration,I'm thinking with a stretched boom with that big canopy it might look in better proportion.

I would have looked into stretching mine, but before I got to the point of doing anything, I built up a custom heli using a modified version of a frameset Maj had designed and we planned it together to work as an 800 and I used a TDR canopy on mine. It was inspired by the Suzi Laos, which has a custom canopy with basically a very similar shape only a little bit taller.

Sooo, it's obviously not the same as a stretched TDR as it uses Trex moving parts, but that's the role it fills in my little heli fleet. So my TDR will stay 700 size and I have rearranged the layout to allow the use of really small packs (like 2600mah) in a one up one down sandwich configuration.

I followed the thread about Maj's custom framesets, seeing the helis you and Maj produced is what got me interested in owning this type of heli.Maj was selling a custom frameset around the same time as the TDR,I tried to buy them first as I had a donor 700Dfc but was beaten to it.I think I saw it as an easier option than the TDR with the simple Align mechanics and readily available cheap Align spares.TDR does look cool though
