WDF76 Fantastic choice mate.
I did exactly the same 2 months ago and can hover now with a bit of flying. Had a few crashes but repairs have been fun.
Get yourself a decent charger, extra 2200mah lipos for about £13 each and perhaps get a copy of phoenix simulator. Ive been using that to learn to fly toe in.
Let us know how you get on. I presume you have fitted training gear.

hello all. new member and new owner of a blade 400, yet to properly fly it just tested it in the living room yesterday after my ac adapter arrived (and realised how much force it generates in the process)
i see alot of peps talking about batteries and tbh im mega confused on which cheap ones to get and from where, is there any chance of links?
also metal parts/carbon fibre etc is it worth the initial costs with these? are they more likely to survive a crash?
thinking i will probably get a 450 canopy aswell, seems to be the way to go with these helis.

Don't spent too much money on bling! They're expensive and won't add anything to the flying experience or durability of the heli, apart from metal geared servos. I have the carbon tail fin and stabiliser on mine now, but that was because I was feeling a bit extravagent.
The only upgrades on mine are HG65s on cyclic and the carbon bits as mentioned. Everything else is stock including wooden blades (4th set now!).

Im a new Blade owner too (the wife kindly bought me one for Christmas). I bought some Overlander batteries for my blade and have had great use from them so far. I get about 8-9 mins of flying time from each one if I am just hovering and if I use the heli in 3D mode then I get about 6 mins flying (I havent flown 3d yet I just wanted to get used to flying with a high head speed as a next step). The batteries are the 2200mAh ones. Any bigger and you might not get them under the canopy and also bigger=heavier= putting the helicopters balance out of kilter.
I got my batteries from my local shop however the link to the Overlander site is: NOV DEC Special Prices Sport 2200 3S 11.1v 25C | Overlander Batteries

well the blade arrived all £120 of it.......................................and yup you guessed it!!!
Main shaft - Bent
Servos - no teeth
so much for "no damage and ready to fly" lol
However, it was cheap, the DX6i is as new and the rest of the heli is in as new condition as far as i can tell. Most of these are on order, still has original gyro and tail servo
have got a set of these
3x MG90 Metal Gear Micro Servo High Speed Fits 450 Heli on eBay (end time 18-Jan-11 20:16:23 GMT)
on order, not the best but as long as they are better than original they'll do for now, and a long list of bits from fast lads (basically all the bits that get wrecked in a crash)
so hopefully come the weekend it'll get sorted and may even a test flight you never know. Just gotta buy a decent charger now!If I don't reply, it's probably because I am lost in a Field somewhere!

could you not chase some money back on that one. item not as described and all that....
some people have some front, don't they?
see, that's what makes me think twice about these so called as new, flown twice, undamaged machines.
does everything else look straight to you?wAyNe

everything else is straight as far as i can tell, and everything is there. Yes it's a risk, but its still only £120 delivered, so i really can't grumble too much, sold my old DX6i for £70 and this one is like new, so to me heli cost £50!!! yes it's probably gonna cost me £20-£30 to get sorted but still a cheap birdOriginally posted by wdf76 View Postcould you not chase some money back on that one. item not as described and all that....

yes i think so, with a little help from some friends i am sure. will just be a case of deciding IF the tail rotor and gyro need upgrading, or leave the stock ones until i progress more. But at the mo, most important thing is to get it sorted, straight and in the air (so i can crash it lol)If I don't reply, it's probably because I am lost in a Field somewhere!
