the more you read, the more you find. for me, the blade at this price seems the way to go. i've researched like mad, contemplated a trex 450 sport or an interceptor 400 from chopperaddict (with alien command) or a mini titan.

yeah the blade seems to get a bit of a hammering but i've yet to find another heli with as much support when it comes to fixing and setting up. I don't even have one yet but i've had a good look at the build and set up vids. i like the fact that i'm getting into something where there is so much info and no stone left unturned (the positives seem to outweigh the negatives). i'm pretty sure you could say that if it happens to your heli then it's happened to hundreds of others.

i'm under no illusion that i'll crash lots, strip servos and probably wish i'd brought the trex but i'm getting into this on a tight budget for now. £200 quid to get me going + a decent charger and a couple of li-po's seems the best way. even if i junk the blade then it's cost me 70 quid and i've a decent tx/rx to take onwards and may be other bits because you have to upgrade..... don't you?

you can read and read and research and ask questions 'til your blue in the face. i often find an answer i'm looking for and then it'll be swiftly followed by someone coming along and rubbishing it. i've often been right at the point where i'm ready to buy and something in my head goes whoa boy, hold on a sec. i'm sure you've all been in my position. i don't know how we ever got along without forums. i'm finally ready to jump in with both feet (my usual style). i think.... better to regret than not have a crack eh?

i've promised myself that i'll have a crack at radds school of flight, with a bit of luck i'll be able to say i've cycled a few li-po's before i bin it for the first time.

the guy at my local shop was really good. took a lot of time to go through things and went straight to the blade. the skeptic might say is that brand loyalty, maximum sales margin or just honestly the right place to start. at the end of the day it's not life and death, it's a punt, a few hundred quid to have a go at something new to try, who knows, i may not even get on with it. that's why, for me a dx7 and a trex at £600+ may be a bit more of a bitter pill if we don't get on.

support me now please gents. i'm thisclose to becomming the newist heli pilot (crasher) on the block!

    cheers

I went the same way,i decided just to buy e-flite helis because the parts are so cheap and i am a beginner, whether or not they are the best 3d helis out there makes no difference to me.I would love to buy a trex 450 and i almost did but when i hear the heli guys at the field talking about the expense of an align heli after a crash then i am convinced its the wrong way to go for me.Maybe in a few years when i have improved and can be confident that i probably wont crash it then i will. For now i will stick with e-flite

I actually havent flown my own b400 yet what with christmas and being ill but i will do in the new year.I have flown a friends b400 though and i found it to be perfect just to hover etc

Wayne, I have just got a B400 having spent a couple of months of sporadic flying on an ESky Honey Bee FP v2 to learn the ropes. The difference is huge and I am extremely happy with the Blade, so much so that I wish I had started on it in the first place. So why did I go for a blade? Like you I read loads of reviews and tips etc. Those who were extolling the virtues of the Trex and the like and rubbishing the blade in my mind seemed to either have lot of spare cash and could thus go straight into high end heli ownership or were being slightly snobbish about the Blade. To start flying with a really good basic radio and a highly enjoyable helicopter then I cant see how you can beat £200 all in, especially as it is going to be much cheaper to repair than a Trex by all accounts, on the numerous occasions we are bound to crash. As for the shop owners advice I hardly think he will be selling it due to getting the highest return on it- not at £200 a pop. If he/she is a good shop owner they will be trying to get you snared on an addictive hobby by selling you what they genuinely think is best for you- then they can make money out of you over the years ahead.

So go for it would be my advice, I really do not think you will regret it. The money you save by going this way rather than for a more expensive bird will allow you to buy other often forgotten things such as a good charger, more batteries to extend you flight sessions, tools etc.

the blade dx6i combo is a brilliant way to begin in this hobby. keep the motor and reciever and change to what i have in my signature. you can't go wrong. any info you want on a blade 400 is easily found by googling blade 400 bible. or by sending me a message. i have a 600 but i will never sell the blade because it is such fun with a surprising amount of performance and stability in wind..... with mentioned upgrades of course. you can take it anywhere and fly it with common sense and you will always gather a crowd :-) ( i like that bit ) get a few extra lipo's....2200 mah zippy's are good, an extra charger and you gat a brilliant platform to improve your flyin with minimum outlay and maximum fun. if you wanna go fly then pm and we can fly at my club or somewhere to suit.

ok, taken the advice and yes...............i'd love the TREX450 but cost outlay will always be an issue. Why buy the best when i may never get good enough to appreciate it.
So, i got a Blade 400, bargain price at £120 incl the DX6i!!! Already have a TX so if i get £60 for that, the heli has cost me £60, and i don't think i'd ever get a TREX for £60????
So now for the upgrades...............i believe Servo's are a simple must?

Tail servo is the best upgrade.A hs5084 i think is ideal, then set the gyro to digital with it fitted.

main servo's will break in a crash, you can either change the gears at around£2.50 a go or replace the servo's with metal geared items(can be as cheap as £8.00ish for the likes of nanotech)Just be aware that different servo's can overload the esc.(a ubec is the cheapest fix)

get yourself a stock of main and feathering shafts, they will bend in a crash.

most of all enjoy it Blades are great little helicopters no matter what the "3D Masters" say

i have no doubt i WILL crash, and am budgeting on a list of things to buy for when i do
                  so we have
                  metal ger servos x3
main shaft and feathering shafts (job lot)
                  main blades.
                  tail servo = hs5084

anything more peeps want to add?

most spares come in two's so you will be repairing one component and getting a spare for the next. kingslynn models are the cheapest for spares. they have a good website. if u get metal gear servos (65mg) and align 35amp esc you will be ok to begin with but then you WILL want to change the tail servo and gyro. i have the 5084 aswell. brilliant servo for this heli combined with gy401 gyro. also get align 325 cf blades. 13.00 quid on fastlads. good price seein as as a month ago they were 23.00. take it very easy with the throttle as these are a little jumpy. the parts are very cheap from kings lynn and combined with this fact the blade 400 is a fantastic way to get into this hobby. specially with the price cut. maybee something new will come along in the line soon.

thats why i grabbed the blade. Yes i WILL get a TREX, now seeing them in the flesh today, probably a 500. However, this heli will stand me in at £60 ish + any extras, and for that i won't be in tears of getting put off each time i ditch it. I will learn with the Blade, and when the time comes, reward myself with something bigger, more expensive, but know that my goal can only be achieved in small steps.
