  • Beam E4 build info….

Well, the Beam E4 build is going just great; in fact it’s been a real joy with no major hiccups so far. I though I might add two things I have found that might be useful to someone either building or about too.

I’m at the stage of installing the servos and found that the Hitec HS-5065MG servo used for the elevator will not seat properly behind the anti rotation plate. This is due to one Socket Head Bolt, 2x5mm which attaches the plate protruding out blocking a neat and square fit.

To seat the servo properly I removed the Socket Head Bolt, 2x5mm and replaced it with a same sized but flat headed screw and re lock tighted it….the servo now fits nice and snug!

The other one is the gap in the main blade grips to fit a 5.5 nut driver is only 7 mm. Typical, I have two 5.5 nut drivers but the outside diameter is too wide to fit inside to get to the nut itself.

Managed to source one from JE spares and after chatting with Josh, who measured two different makes, an HUDY driver was the slimiest just under 7mm.
Here’s the link if interested http://www.jespares.com/radio-controlled-models/helicopters/tools/drivers/nut-drivers/hudy-socket-driver-5.5mm.html
HUDY tools are expensive but well worth it if you’ve ever owned one…

Josh, also assured me if for any reason it didn’t fit, to send it back….cant get better service than that.

……Otherwise the build continues tonight and I hope this was of some help..

Good stuff Eddie - just worth noting that the "pink" esky 5.5mm nut driver does fit. I think this comes in a set of 3 nut drivers. IIRC I got mine from fastlads. You only get one in a pack however.

Yep - that looks like the same one that was in the kit I bought.

Must admit Jason, I have a long shafted esky (made2fade pink!) hex driver which is very good. But in all honesty you could search the web all day for the right and cheapest kit and it could still be wrong.

Been there before with the “Full Heli Tool Kit Deluxe Version” which many heli dealers’ supply and most of it is useless…30 odd quid down the drain.

On this occasion and any excuse to buy this make the HUDY 5.5 nut driver fitted the purpose and as with all my other HUDY tools should last for some time….he hopes!

                Nice one Eddie.
I know what you mean about the nut drivers. Ordered 3 before I got the ones I needed!
                Keep at it mate.

I am sure I posted in the build thread that the esky one fits. I might be mistaken as it was awhile ago. There wasnt the option to buy the 5.5mm by itself when I got mine, hence I got the 3 drive set.

I am all for having the right tools for the job with good quality manufacturing. There is nothing worse than hex drives made of cheese which make the screw cheese as well! Thats a hard lesson learnt from past. I also avoid buying the "kits" be it for a car or a heli as half the time it is a compromise.

                    Eddie,

The rear servo mounts on the outside of the frame, if you mount it on the inside you will have to use a standard ball on the servo arm, instead of the longer one supplied that is supposed to fit there.. as lining up with the swash plate arm will be out slightly.

The 5.5mm nut spinner that are used on Tamiya cars for wheels hubs are supposed to be narrow.. so I have been told

Jason, I gave in and bought the (made2fade pink!) esky 5.5 nut driver £4.89 as well as the Hudy one. Thought I'd better as I know it'll be a nightmare constantly changing the feathering shaft with only one driver. As they say use the the right tools for the job!
