I did not even take the clutch assembly out of mine too change the liner...just removed the engine and cut the old liner out with a stanley knife gave it a clean up with some sandpaper then fitted the new liner with it in the heli...I did put the clutch in with the electrical tape on it though...left it over night and Bobs your uncle..I reckon the align clutches are ok almost 30 quid for the upgrade you can get 3 align ones for that..dont put the paper in I dont think that is a good idea.....

Ok Ive just replaced the clutch liner, its sitting on the table now with the bell on the clutch with 2 layers of masking tape around the clutch. It was a real tight fit to get on there, hopefully this will sort that. In the mean time i've ordered a heavy duty clutch and I'll also increase my throttle curve a bit to try and make the clutch engage better.

Thanks for the help guys, ill report back my findings!

The reason the recommendation for electrical tape was given is that the two turns gives you about a 10 thou gap. There is no way of knowing what you will get with masking tape.

One of the reasons for a slipping clutch is the gap is too big and the engine gets up too much speed before the shoes spring out far enough. The smaller gap allows the clutch to engage at a lower engine speed.

Its a fine art this nitro lark Carl!
The First thing to do is make sure your linner is running a small gap.I wrap 1 layer of electrical tape around my clutch when gluing the linner. This will leave you a very slight draging which will soon bed in to perfection.
I also bin the stock linner and use the rave env liner which falls about 1\2mm short in legnth but a little epoxy sorts that out. This will last you 100s of flights, so its worth doing.

As for tunning, you need lots of experience and a good ear!
If you fancy a trip over to MK as my guest,i will give you some help. Its easier and quicker for me to help you with the model than it is for me to type on computers!
Its a fantastic model and engine you have and its worth percivering with.

give us a shout if you fancy a meet up

          cheers

thanks for all the advice guys! Im not so worried about the tuning at this point, its the clutch at the moment, one thing after another so far Im sure itll all come good soon! I'm not worried about getting the last 0.1hp out of it, but id like to be able to do tic tocs without feeling like its going to cut out

Ill see how this clutch does, Im thinking maybe im running too low a throttle curve in normal mode - I normally use that to spool up and take off and then flick into IU. After I changed the clutch the first time it was spooling up lovely. but its been getting progressively worse often revving for 3-4 seconds before the clutch seems to fully engage. Maybe im just running too low RPMs to spool it up and its slipping and ruining it!!

Its curing at the moment so ill post back once Ive had chance to fly it again. Thatll be tomorrow or failing that next week sometime as im quite busy with work over the next few days!

I used to use the Quick clutches all the time - they were the only ones that lasted.
Helicopter pilots get it up quicker.

Not sure but i think mine is slipping somewhere too, my tail is kicking out slightly on hard pitch inputs and stops. I cant hear anything slipping but the tail kicking out is usually a sign thats somethings slipping right?

I put a quick UK clutch in it and been tic-tocing all day like a goodun.

the one way seems to be slipping when you try and start it (it either engages or it doesnt) but the actual running of it is good. Much much better than the align one. I think my starter shaft may have mated to the align 1 way and be slightly too small for the quick UK one so im going to put a new starter shaft in and see if that cures it, but so far so good, the clutch is great, engages nicely and yeah, just much better than align!

Yep, and as Rapidgaz said on your other thread spray some electrical cleaner into the owb at the start of the day and it wont slip all day, just a short blast. we have a can at the club for slipping 700 starter shafts and it works everytime, without fail!!

Ive just ordered the lynx clutch and heavy duty liner so hopefully my days of broken or slipping clutches will be over lol

I've never suffered with a slipping OWB but it'd be nice to know that the maplins spray electric component cleaner I have will work so can you name what you use please, thanks.
