If charging lipos you need a charger with a display that will tell you how many milliamp hours are going back in, to make sure you aren't taking too much out and to check the cell balance. You can do without one until something stops working and then you need to know what is going on. A good charger can always be sold. The ichargers are very good. An old car battery makes a good power supply. A low power charger will charge any battery. It might take longer, but that may not matter to begin with. A 3S battery will charge a 6S battery, just 3 cells at a time with a cable that you can make yourself. Not usual, but the choice of charger is about convenience and speed and reliability and accuracy.

A relatively cheap, multi chemistry charger, quite happy to run off a modified PSU from a PC / Car battery / Laptop charger.

We've been using one for a couple of years for the smaller batteries often with a parallel board with no problems.Proud owner of

Take a look at this. Ansmann Xbase 2.0se Lipo 1-4s 12v/240v Charger
Kings Lynn models have a fair range. They have cheaper but they require an external power source. So does this one but it is supplied with the charger. It does all sorts of battery chemistry too.

Hi from the beautiful blackpool to the wonderful whitley. I bought this charger - eventually - from hobbyking , who offered a discount and the delivered price was £15 . Bloody great bargain

back again, sorry
so I have these batteries, 8 off, that go into my Tx
4x AA 2300mAh low self-discharge Rechargeable batteries | eBay
the Tx has a charging socket that accepts my laptop charger. so i can charge the batteries in situ.
now, the laptop charger is 19V 3.42A output. So the Amps is sufficient to charge 8 of these batteries at 1C , in other words 2.3A? But what about the Volts? The charger outputs 19V but the input voltage of the Tx is 12V (8x 1.5V 2300mAh batteries). Can i use the laptop charger?Last edited by Keratos; 05-11-2012, 08:00 PM.Align 600 Nitro Pro 3D; Align FL760 3G FBL conversion; OS .50 Nitro; Turnigy Digital Servos (ELE,AIL); Spektrum Digital Servos (THROT,RUDDER); Align 2in1 Regulator and Electronic Glow Plug switched start; Walkera Devo 10 Tx and Rx kit; Fuel Filter; Heli Artist scale Airwolf with retractables.

Rechargeable nimhs are 1.2v per cell not 1.5v so Tx is 9.6v.

I'm lost for words. We've explained it all many times. If you understand things you can bend the rules. If you can't, try following them. Use the correct charger for the batteries. Chargers provide current, but the battery provides the volts. Nimhs need a nimh charger to detect end of charge. Lipos need a lipo charger and laptops need a laptop charger. Laptop batteries have control electronics built in.
To answer the what about the volts question, the volts will go up until the batteries are charged. Then the volts will go down as the batteries warm up. Then the batteries will go pop and stop charging.Flasher 450 Sport. Assan GA250 with 520 tail servo, MKS DS450 cyclic.

Can i use the laptop charger? No
You need a charger that will charge NiMh= Nickel metal Hydride
What TX do you have Darren as it might have been easier to get a battery pack from somwhere like Transmitter Batteries - BATTERIES / CHARGERS | Overlander Batteries and get the tx charger for your model or get one of these Multiple Charge Lead | Overlander Batteries plug it in to your charger then with the battery pack connect the charge lead to the corresponding socket on the multi lead set up dial in your battery type on the turnigy unit and away you go.
If you don't want to do any of these just get the cheap wall chargers from asda etc,but i think you'll find that a bind having to keep taking them out individually.
Just as a bit of a reference Darren.
Ni-Cad =Nickel Cadmium
NiMh =Nickel Metal Hydride
Li Po= lithium polymer
Li ion= Lithium ion
LiFePO4 or Li Fe for short =Lithium Iron phosphate
All different battery chemistries that require specific charge conditions some are closely linked like Nicad and Nimh but not others so make sure when charging you dial in the correct battery type.Last edited by PKNEC; 06-11-2012, 03:05 AM.The Fleet

I do not feel that your kind of feedback was warranted - I am asking for help on an issue relating to a laptop charger because the [poorly translated oriental instructions] suggest that one can use such chargers. I would respectfully ask you keep these sorts of comments and opinions to yourself and refrain from "helping" me any further in future. Thank you.Originally posted by cjcj1949 View PostI'm lost for words. We've explained it all many times. If you understand things you can bend the rules. The Turnigy charger that you say you bought earlier also charges NiMH so you seem to have what you need.
I would be inclined to seek local help from someone who can show you what you need to do to use it with your tx batteries, given earlier comments in the thread I don't want to try and explain it as it would be safer for someone to show you.

Thank you pal for the kind response.
Walkera Deviation 10 (DEVO 10) is my Tx.
But the reason for my bizzare question was that the Tx has a panel at the back that says "input 12v" and the "manual" shows 8x1.5V batteries. The batteries are arranged in a pack, they are dam hard to get in and out of the pack, with a tiny connector at the end of a lead from the pack. The connector plugs into a socket inside the Tx. I think my Acucel charger will do the job.
Thanks for the links my friend.

Yes, your are abolustely correct. I've just realised that, and mentioned in my post above. Many thanks.Originally posted by Mark_T View PostThe Turnigy charger that you say you bought earlier also charges NiMH so you seem to have what you need.

If you have a close look in your manual in section 3.0 'Specification' you'll see it shows using either '8x1.5V or NiMH 8x1.2V', the 1.5V cells would be normal disposable AA cells.Originally posted by Keratos View PostBut the reason for my bizzare question was that the Tx has a panel at the back that says "input 12v" and the "manual" shows 8x1.5V batteries. Personally I would not use individual rechargeable cells in the battery case that they provide, I'd replace the whole thing with a welded pack. Easy to find packs the right shape and from the looks of the manual they use a JST connector so shouldn't be hard to find.

Well Mark I have read and heard similar views.
Particularly with airborne models, i guess one would not want the Tx/Rx link to vanish mid flight, and loose batteries "pop out". i have ordered some silicon shrink wrap that one applies around the pack and heat up, the whole sheet sheet contracts around the pack. i also plan to insert heat proof silicon into the pack around the batteries. Got the tip from a guy at work in the electronics lab.
