Terrific. Thanks for the detailed info. Apologies, I wasnt aware the Giant Shark reference was a link.
The trickle charge is the way Id like to go for now, I've read bad woes on this forum relating to LiPo conversions and separate AA cells. The forward way I feel is to get a welded pack, the latter being what the clubs round here have recommended today. You're right by the way, they wont let me fly with separate cell arrangements. Nothing elitist, just that they claim the connections are unreliable leaving to potential loss of control.

I shall go to the local RC hobby shop
    Many thanks again.

If you look at each battery as an individual problem then you will end up with a draw full of chargers.

If you end up travelling a distance to a flying site then a field charger is a prudent backup device to have in your field box.

In one of my post I did put a link to a charger sold by Giant Shark ie:-

    GT A-6-10 200W Balance charger & discharger

From the link you showed the cells are separate AA pen cells , although as previously stated , no recommended for RC use because of contact un reliability. The fact that they are mounted in a wired carrier indicates that a one piece welded pack of nimhs is an option considered by the manufacturer.

As taking out individual cells or the whole battery tray bring forth their own problem perhaps at this moment it may be prudent to ignore my previous posts and just get a wall ac trickle charger from a local model shop. Take you Tx and let them match plug size and polarity to your transmitter. Even if its only 100mah once you've charge them up the first time for about 24hrs, only a few hours trickle would be required now and again . They are pretty foolproof because of their low output ( below 1/10 capacity charge rate) they can be left on almost indefinately, which is hand if you forget theyre switched on. That should cost you less than £10.

Can't help with a particular make to buy ,but you could perhaps phone up "Buzzflyer" UK:-

BuzzFlyer BF8 Tx and Rx --- BuzzFlyer UK

They sell walkera helis and radios rebadge under their own name. They may be able to answer other queries re your Tx as regards to simulator connection as well

Having read this very elongated thread may I suggest the best thing to do is go to the local model shop and purchase either a Futaba, JR or Specktrum set of Radio gear, this will have the correct charger for the transmitter batteries included in the box!!

LoL - maybe I will be as eminent and educated one day , then I perhaps will not need to post such messages - but then again I suppose i wouldnt even need to be on these forums other than to impart my worldly wisdom

As I mentioned above, the best action for me just to go into the hobby shop in town, as recommended one way or another through this topic.

        Thanks everyone

I started with a radio (Futaba) and a wall charger (It's a trickle charger itself) and used that for years. Charge overnight and see what the radio has in it the next day .

It's the simplest route and the charger will also charge the heli battery - we are talking nitro here (I forget ).

So let's keep this simple. I like the idea of the trip to the LHS or phone Midland Helicopters, tell them it's a Devo and ask them to suggest one for you. Their phone number is at the top of this link and you will be wanting something like the one in the pic but hopefully a bit cheaper.

JP Tx/Rx Charger 60/60mah | Midland Helicopters Ltd

          Forget LiPo in the radio.
Helicopter pilots get it up quicker.

When the blue light is flashing I am kidding.

Why simplify when it is so much simpler to complicate.

thats a really helpful suggestion John and I will be visiting the local RC Hobby Shop who will match any online prices. If however I dont get any job I will order from Midland.
            appreciate the advice John
            thanks
