  • NIMH batteries okay for transmitter?

My Walkera DEVO 10 can use 8xAA NIMH batteries, is it okay to use these or should i convert to LiPo as I note many others have done with their transmitters (of various manufacturer/models)

It also has a charge port that accepts a charging plug (not supplied) that must be "DC 12V 50mA polarity +)-" where can i get such a charger?

    thanks

NiMhs are ok. Use Sanyo if possible and the ready to use type. They hold their charge for as long as lipos. Buy an ordinary NiMh charger that will charge single batteries. The charge plug is for either a fast charger or a slow charger. Not a power supply.

the charge point is for charging all the NiMh batteries in the pack. The manual specifically states that

TX chargers come in 2 types, centre pin positive or centre pin negative. Usually I seem to remember Futaba is inner pin +ve, outer is -ve. JR is -ve inner, +ve outer. You need to work out which yours is and buy the corresponding wall charger. Or if you have a charger which has a charging lead for a TX use that making sure you get the polarity correct.

Retro fitting LiPos into a transmitter designed for NiMhs or NiCads is a BAD IDEA, for many reasons!

Not least of which is that the voltage alarm is extremely unlikely to work until long after the battery has expired! There was an item about this in the last BMFA mag, and it resulted in the demolition of a large gas turbine model.......

            Positive is inner

But ive no idea what diameter, charging rate in amps, or volts the wall charger needs to be
            The tx manual says nothing
            Help??

You put most of that detail in your first post - DC 12V 50mA

It will help if you say what you don't understand. NiMh stands for Nickel Metal Hydride. They are rechargeable. The information on your tx is wrong. There are two ways of charging up a NiMh battery. You can either charge it in 1 to 2 hours at a high current or for a long time at a low current. The chargers that often come with a tx are low current chargers that are also called slow chargers. They are used to do an overnight charge. The charge information is on the battery. There are different sizes of battery. The very old 500mah NiCd batteries would be charged at a current in ma equal to teir capacity in mah. Hence 50ma on your tx. The NiMh batteries that you will buy will have much higher capacity. Perhaps 2500mah. These will take around 60 hours to charge at 50ma. If you want to overnight charge you will need a charger that suits the batteries. Or you can look in the Argos catalogue and choose one. These will be fast chargers (mainly) and will stop charging when the battery is full.

                    Which information is wrong?
The manual is pretty ok , but the english grammar leaves a lot to be desired, but i get most of it.
There is no charger with the Tx.
What is why i need help. I just very simply need to know what charger to buy (a wall charger that plugs into the Tx) and where can I buy.
That's all I need help with - much appreciated.
                    Thanks

Measure the diameter if you don't know it. Or do what id do in your shoes and Google it. What is the capacity of the batteries you have?

Ok they're good batteries...do you have a battery charger amongst the things you were given? If not then invest in one as you'll need it to charge the receiver battery(s). Then you can get/buy a lead to charge the transmitter from the battery charger at the correct rate (re read cjcj's previous post about rates and mAh etc)

Ok read all the above....if your TX says 12v 50mah only and is centre +ve then go buy a Futaba TX charger.
