If it's one a quarter then it's on the right side. What fuel is it? You can happily take the Hyper to about 1 and 1/8th where it will be on song, I've never seen the brown bits inside an engine apart from around the rear bearing. How long has the plug been in as it's defo got hot.

Dave the plug had no more that 13 tank fulls.
      The fuel is Opti 20%

Strange but the top of the piston had nothing like that brown deposits! I wonder if that's after run oil I use after each session. I Usually take the fuel pipe to the carb and squirt some in the pipe. Then I spin the engine with the starter to suck the oil in.

The element should stay shiny not go dull like in the pics. No lean runs at all. Other than that maybe a duff plug as has been suggested.

some after-run oil can have caster oil in it that may account for the brown deposits ?

I have had 3 good flights so far with the new replacement plug, so I keep an eye at it. The engine sounds very happy so hopefully I am worrying for nothing.
Also I may over done it with the oil thinking about it!

            Thanks guys.

Ok, can you give me an idea what makes you saying that! Need to understand how you read this by looking the picture!

A rear bearing on it's way out can throw bits of ball back into the engine and can take the glow plug out. Normally this is a complete destruction of the plug. When did you last change it out of interest.

Sorry Dave, are you talking about the plug or the bearing when I last changed it?

The rear bearing, in fairness you can hear them grumbling when they are getting ready to go.

                          Bearing never been changed Dave.
I bought the engine from here from a very trusty member and had a gallon run through it, and another gallon from when I got it.
The engine sounds spot on with no noises at all.
I wait and see how long the new glow plug will last. If I get the same problem then i guess will be a rear bearing replacement.

                          Thanks Guys.

Im a bit late on this, but I agree with the other posts here, it looks like its been run far too hot at some point.

The OS50 I have always seems to run wet at low rpm, makes plenty of smoke at mid stick, but seems to lean out too much at the high end...., if you richen the top end up, the hover gets too 'wet' as a result of the low speed seeming to make the engine a little to wet, whatever the setting.

Ive fitted a 40L carb (from a 55 hyper) which gives me three needles to play with and have had more luck, I can keep the high speed rich, lean out the mid with the mid needle, and not have to worry about the idle being wet.

Just a heads up panosg optifuel 20% will smoke like hell even when very lean so use ya ear to tune and never rely on a smoke trail

and if you use after run oil try putting through plug hole cos most oils will slowly rot ya carb seals

take care bud and happy flying
