Jacks failure was the tail shaft itself shearing rather than the Hub I seem to remember.

Your correct but the over riding theme is that the tail in one way or another is not up to the job in terms of mechanical robustness.

So one of the blade grips came off.... ouch.

There have been various occurrences of 700 tail failures reported, ranging from output shaft shearing to hub coming off to loosing a blade grip. Without a clear common trend, I'm not sure I'd read too much into it other than unlucky. Is there any chance it was damaged in a previous ding, or got bashed going in and out of the back of the car or something?

It's sure a bad and expensive day - Hope you get them fixed soon.

Had the same happen with mine last year, turned down part of shaft that hub fits on sheared clean off. The new tail shaft has lasted over a year now with no problems.

When you replace it get the new part without the step down on the end Sorry to see that happen though

I feel for you jack!!! Ive had it happen to myself once luckily the whole tail gearbox ripped outta my boom so the damage wasn't as bad as it could have been. the align bolts really aren't upto the job as in all my trex700 models I replace that bolt with a high tensile bolt and use steel washers on it. I also replace these bolts every 50 flights to be on the safe side, not had a problem since. Cheers Chris

Done that twice! New part with black gear has no step on it but you need the new hub as well.

This post was from 2009... LMAO!!! Back when we were using sicks and paddles with our main rotors... I think fire had been invented :P.

Although on a serious note, I remember this day like it was yesterday... I wasn't a happy bunny lol.

The same thing happened at our field today too (not to me). He was just flying gentle lazy 8s and the tail rotor flew off and his lovely 700N DFC ended up in the dirt. Not too much damage other than blades and canopy. He was lucky in that respect.

There was some talk at my club that this was a known problem on the electrics but it appears now it's not just confined to them.

Mine is / was 6 months old with about 35 flights and pristine.
