  • 700 tail failure!

Had a wonderful day at the field yesterday... NOT

Managed to come back home with a completely totalled trex 700.

Had a normal flight with it, didn’t necessarily put it through any more torture than it does every flight, got about ¾ of the way through the tank and decided to land because the fingers were getting a bit chilly so brought it into the hover about 10 (ish) foot off the ground ready to land. Then all of a sudden the model started shaking like mad and chewed its self up in the air and plummeted into the deck. Of course I was in shock and had no idea what happened, when we went to retrieve the wreckage we couldn’t find the tail rotor around anywhere close. Started searching the field and fount the rotor and blade holder in tact about 35 feet away with a sheared bolt.

Oh and did i mention i managed to total a vibe 50 about half an hour before?

Feel for ya man, though the 700 doesn't look to bad, but to bin the vibe as well, not good.
The worst bit of them is the loss of the blades, not good

yeahh the blades are always the worst.

saying that though the vibe had that beautiful orange canopy on it, managed to get away with just a tiny chip on that though.. oh no wait on the journey home the dynatron starter fell on it and did twice the fking damage!

Throwing the tail hubs on the 700 seems to be a recurring thing. Done it once myself and know of at least a couple others. Whether it is fatigue or issue after a repair where the bolts have become stressed I'm not sure. I opted to fit a QUK tailhub.

sorry to hear that.. Doesn't look a pretty site

Mechanical failures are always not nice.. My 450 belt snapped on me today about 25ft up inverted.. Fearing the worse, but turned out the only damage was a bent flybar which I managed to bend back.. A new belt for me and I'll be away again..

The one through the holder and bearings into the hub we only discovered what happened when we got home and carried out an inquest

One thing we had noticed the last couple of weeks was slight foaming in the tank i think we checked every thing bar the tail blades the more i think the more i think that was the start of it.
