  • 700n DFC clutch liner dragging

I've just replaced the lining with a new Align one. it seems to be dragging a lot more than I expected. Even though I've spun the engine for a while with the plug removed to bed in the clutch, my Align starter won't start the engine. Is there any alternative to taking the engine out and lightly sanding the liner down a bit?

Hi ian, its normal to drag a bit with a new liner, you just need to burn it in a bit first. Get it started and hold the head firm whilst giving it some throttle. it'll soon bed in. If your struggling bring it round ill sort it for you

Getting it started and giving it some throttle was my intention this evening but it just wouldn't start. Is it worth using an electric drill to spin the clutch for a while?

Thanks for the offer; which starter do you use?

Thanks guys. Never had a problem starting with the Align one in the past 2 months of flying my first nitro. Guess I should have asked which starter should I buy before I bought the Align "high torque" starter..............

I'll try the electric drill and/or call round and see Tony the next time I go flying.

For future reference I always use thunder tiger liners they are much better, make a note of the clutch liner diameter from new stock one & skim out or sand out to approximately 1mm bigger before replacing.

The older black align liners were quite frankly $hite, the new liners are blue like the TT ones and are much better IMHO. I have replaced liners for a couple of the guys and the new ones are much better and thicker too.
                          Happy Flying! Thanks - Dave
