  • Maxpoly 5s1p 4000 on 500

    Hi guys

My Maxpoly arrived today,as promised it fits perfectly without any mods

I am gonna charge it up and start breaking it in this afternoon,i may do a video for posting later but it needs some TLC for the first few runs.

Weight is good at 465grams and it balances with a slight nose down attitiude with a 9254 on the tail

The Lipo cost me £77.50 and i am running this thread purely to give other fliers an extra source of info,i will say it as i see it and expect nothing but the best performance from a modern day Pack. Also to keep everybody sweet i am almost positive that all the modern packs of similar weight and spec on the market will perform the same or better,Maxpoly is simply my personal choice,if all goes well i may or may not buy another one i will shop around like everbody should but as of now this is my bag

I am gonna run the 15t at least for starters but i do have a 16t one ready although i read in the destruction book for the 500 that the 15t can overspeed the head as it is so 16t must push it well over whats advised and i dont want a face full of paddle or other rotating item TBH

I dont have an Align 5s balance lead for my Balancepro so i will have to order a pigtail from Aurorra and make one up,Maxpoly recommend charging at 0.5 c for the first few charges to ensure maximum reliability from Lipo, they advise balance charging every 15 cycles so for now i am using my Prodigy 2 to charge it up.

I will put a video up later either way but it wont be much to look at.

I believe Ash is going to be testing some of their packs so i will look forward to his more in depth reports and flight logs,my info will only be Mr Average flier

whne using the prodigy your obviously doing this through the deans/or whatever, is the peak cuttout good enough to protect the lipo cells, just wondering as ive always used my cellpro to charge lipos up till now.

I have always found the Prodigy to be pretty reliable, although not ideal i have regularly charged Lipos thru the main lead, until i get a suitable balance charge lead for my Balancepro i will have to do it this way, also i am only charging at 1800mah for now so about 0.4c as was recommended

When the FMA 10s becomes available this would be used almost every charge in future

Chris, I've run 16T on 6S, let alone 5S. Nothing will fly off, although 6S 16T did sound pretty scary.

btw, Andrew and I have touched base with each other via email and will be having a chat this evening by phone to arrange details of any test work he may wish me to undertake.

                    Ash

I am sure you are correct about the 16t,it was just an observation i have made,i would certainly be silly not to try it at a later date seeing as i have one sat here

I hope you can do a deal with Andrew,it would be good to have some proper data from your good self.

As stated earlier,i am only trying to throw more info into the pot for us 500 owners with this thread,if this one and my 2 3 cell packs continue to perform well i will buy more when needed from them

Anyway, really hope you get some to test

Hmm. then I think i'm going to start looking at getting a couple of large packs and use the pro prog for the time being, as 4mins on my 2100's just aint cutting it

You will be lucky mate not only has the ballance pro been dropped by fma it seems getting leads may be a problem also as he has no B/pro pigtails.

I also use a Prodigy V1 to help me out with charging as I only have one cellpro at the mo, been a good little charger for me, the V1 only does 3S Lipo though.

Its a nice little charger, I really like mine..but its SLLLOOOOW going against the cellpro. I mainly use it for Tx and Lion Rx packs.

Look forward to hearing how the Poly goes. BTW the 5S 16T runs close on the same H/S as 13T 6S does so not a problem

Thanks for all the input guys..

Jason,i would love you to fly the pack,i am off the rest of the week so maybe we could tie up at DMHC one day

Anyway,,had 3 flights with it today,i am only charging it at 1800mah at the moment as per recommendations supplied with it.I have a bit of video that will be posted later, nothing special just something to look at.
The videoed flight was about 3.5 mins and it took 1600mah to recharge the pack, the first flight was 2.5 mins of hovering and some circuits and it took 1100mah,the video was flight 2,i have not recharged from flight 3 yet but that was a bit harder and was 4 mins,as stated,15t pinion was used.

Overall i found the model very nice in the air, power was more constant than using 2 3s 2100 packs,it suited myself and the model nicely. But as i said before i am positive all other branded packs of similar spec would be very similar.

The pack was coming off the model barely warm,i will carry a temp gun in future and will be flying it more during the week.I would love Jason to datalog it for us all to see to complement Ash`s probable data to follow..

On a separate note, the whole heli is flying really nicely now,i am no longer using a DCUP and flying solely on the BEC set at 6v,the spartan gyro is brilliant and complements the overall good feel of the model..

All in all,i think the 500 is a very attractive model from an owners point of view, not only does it look good but it has very good characteristics in flight and uses much cheaper packs. It really is a 600 in a smaller form and i totally love it
