  • First inverted hover

So after not flying at all for three weeks due to weather, work etc but mainly the weather I had a few down the field today and....Did my first inverted hover

I've been practising it loads on the sim so while I was doing some stationary flips I though 'Bugger it' And held it inverted.

Bit of fear/brainfade and everything I've practised seemed to go out of the window so I flipped it back, had a minute and tried again. Success.
I cant say it felt that different to the sim, so I doff my cap to the Phoenix team.

    Am I a 3D pilot now?
    Cheers,

    Gazza

ive been practicing inverted hovers on phoenix, and havnt flown for real in about 3 or 4 weeks, so im hoping that by the time i get the lipos for my trex 600, i should be ready to try it properly. ive only really tried it up really high and for a few seconds at most, but in the sim i can do it for minutes at a time before getting dumb thumbs.... Well done mate!

Sunday I made myself fly my first half circuit am then proceded to ff 8's pm, dont it make you feel great mate
Pleased for you with the inverted mate seems an eternity before I'm gonna be able to do that.

So you flipped inverted rather than rolled.
I have inverted nose in fairly nailed, but can't hover inverted tail in for long at all!

Well done Gazza. I would have added that earlier but I got caught replying at work

How long did you practise on the sim before you tried it for real?

I seem to be ok on the sim tail in for a bit but then lose the plot and give a wrong correction - it seems the more I practise the worse I get! Anyone else find this happens??

All I can say to that is IF I could fly a tenth of what I can do on the sim in real life-watch out 3d masters - managed my first inverted hover on the trex 600 on sunday- granted it only lasted for 8 seconds and at a height of around 150ft!!!!!- it's a start
Found it easier to do a half loop then bottom stick- at the moment not using idle up(hav'nt figured out right settings)- motor tickover is quite high at bottom stick so figure I've just enough h/speed to maintain inverted hover,
anyone out there with a setup that I could use/adapt?
Model is running standard gear and 600L with Align 4600 and NHP Razors- after a 6 min flight,I'am putting back 3358mah-does this sound ok???

                      Well done gazza

I rekon there's no buzz like your first inverted hover. It feels like you have really taken control of your flying when you do it.

Stick with it, I'm just getting inverted tail in cracked on the sim and it's taken a while. It will come as long as you put the stick time in.

On the practise side in general you concentration levels are so high when learning a new orientation you should rest more often at the begginning.

Also Ade told me that when I did start flying inverted, be careful not to do it for too long in a flight. Otherwise your can easily numbthumb the wrong way into the ground when you come back the right way up.

Thanks fellas for all your comments.

Leebert, I probably had about an hour on the sim in total.
I would just keep having 5 minute flights, doing nothing but inverted hovering to tune my senses in. I'm actually more comfortable with nose in than tail in and I dont seem to 'Dumb thumb' it as often. so I only hovered nose in inverted yesterday when I tried it for real.

Moyesboy, I havent rolled yet Just something I've never been comfortable to try..Maybe today I will...Bugger it

Nutz..Love the pic mate. Your face looks like my son's when it's nappy time

Thanks again lads for all your comments, bit of a pointless post really but I hope it inspires confidence for others..I couldnt even hover side on six months ago
                            Cheers,

I'm nice and comfortable nose out on the sim and always roll in and out. I have had a go at flying toward myself and flipping to nose out inverted but that seems to get out of hand sometimes.
I had this mad idea of being able to hover inverted within a year of flying but that day is looming close (31st May)
