  • Rx Batt for high-drain TREX 700 Application

    Guys,

My TREX 700 used to be owned by the Smith Brothers and has 3x JR8915 servos on the cyclic. I think that the demand placed by these servos is killing the rx batts I have. I had an Outrage NRG 3600 rx batt that puffed after a year or so which I just binned and the NRG 2600 batt is going the same way too. After just 2 flights the Align Reg is showing one red light only and the batt is down to 35% when off-load.

Clearly I need a new batt, perhaps something in the 5000mah range which can deliver the current and last for a few more flights, but the price of the NRG batts seems a bit steep. Is there really any reason not to use, say, a solid TURNIGY 2s 5000mah 30-40c battery that will cost a fraction of the price?

Your advice would be much appreciated.

i wouldn't use the nrg 5000 as i've had them go south in 6 months
if i was to buy lipos for rx use i'd go for a std 2 cell lipo pack such as the turnigy's

I have a 5000 nrg rx that was on my 700 with a beastx and would get 4 good flights out of it. Sold the 700 so have it kicking about if your interested ?

ive been using nrg packs forever, was getting 4 flights off my ely q 90 with jr8915s, fbl, but using a different reg, ely q one, if i used a align reg like on my old 50 i was getting 3 flight off a 3600nrg pack using align 610s

current using a 5000 nrg pack with some bls255hv on my flyberred velo 90, am getting about 9 flights per pack, and im never gentle on them

I've found the NRG packs to be pretty poor at maintaining voltage, and they don't seem to last that long before becoming useless. I'm currently trying the 5000 2S2P Optipower pack mentioned by Chris and I'm pretty impressed with them. The only thing I would mention is that they are quite long, about 5 - 6cm longer than the NRG 3600 pack I was using, but in the 700 there's plenty of space so it's not an issue.

That seems like a large battery drain for only a couple of flights.

I was getting 4 flight out of a 2200mah and had 35% left in it.

              Now running a LiFe pack.

I've been told good things about the Zippy 30c Life04 packs, Rob Eccleston finding they work well with his flybarless 700e setup... :-HobbyKing R/C Hobby Store : ZIPPY Flightmax 2100mAh 3S1P 30C LiFePo4 Pack (DE Warehouse)
