I was building my new Trex 600 Nitro Pro this weekend and came across a couple of problems (defects) in my set:

    1. First issue was that the plastic seesaw was binding when I put those special shouldered screws in. Looking at Bob's videos I could see that the seesaw was moving freely. So I filed the inside of the seesaw ever so slightly and that cured the problem. No play and smooth as butter

    2. Tried to push the Elevator control onto the control shaft. But it wedged tight. So I fiddled with it and put some oil on it to work it loose. Then tried again and it got completely jammed near the middle of the shaft. I just cannot get it off. I have messed up the soft alu shaft with pliers trying to get the elevator control off. So I will have to bin it. I did try to push the one end of the shaft into the frame bearings, but it too was tight. So I guess they machined the alu rod with incorrect tolerances. Oh well, that another £8 towards spares and I haven't even flown yet!

But besides that it has been a joy to put together. Reminds me of the old days with Lego

      Hi Simon,
Sounds like you are cracking on with it. Will you be up the field this weekend (weather permitting) ?
Post some photos of your build - It would be good to see how you've put it together.
      Cheers, Lee.

Thanks for the help and tips around here:

Missed a few flying weekends through one reason or another, but got out today. Handed it over to a couple of the guys at my local club who gave it the once over and then spooled it up into the hover.

I must have a four-leaf clover somewhere I don't know about, as they said it flew true without any adjustments.

Then they asked me if I was going to have a fly... One hover and a dead-stick auto later, and it's still in one piece.

        chuffed,

        Mac

thanks, it is that. as its the first one I've ever built, kinda suprising to hear it didn't need any trimming too.

Too nice an afternoon to work, so I went out to solo my 600n. With the field to myself, I decided to just go for it.

Had a really good first solo flight, sucked the tank dry at around 6 minutes.

Then during the 2nd flight I decided to start flicking some switches. Gyro into NR... okay, gyro back to HH. Flight-mode in to Idle-Up 1... okay, back to normal. Throttle-Hold to On... and then back to Off. No dramas!

Did notice a little drift in HH, not as much as in NR though.

More concerning, I was able to pay attention to the oscillations resulting from the use of the training gear. Makes me wonder whether I should attach then firmly using zip-ties or more loosely using rubber bands (that came with the training gear)?

Great feeling, though, 2 solo flights and no bent machinery!

oscillations resulting from the use of the training gear
You can lessen the effect of this by making the rods odd lengths - i.e. cut a half inch off one, an inch off another, and an inch and a half of the other - this way, they can't settle into a resonant frequency between each other quite so easily (if at all) and so you should get less vibration overall.

                Cheers,
                Rob

I'm not going to trim the legs on my training gear, as I took them off for the last 2 flights today. I've had 5 flights with my 600n now!

Wow... another buzz with more adrenaline... are you sure this isn't illegal

The guys at the field have suggested that I take some time to practice side-on hovering and forward flight, and to fine tune the throttle curves, before turning on the ATG.
