  • Hitec HS475 servos to T-Rex 600?

It started with a thread on suitable servo horns. But then I was told that the DS821 servos which came with it are a total no-no for this size machine (plastic gears primarily). Our esteemed Chairman being an electical whiz and with many years fix-wing and rotary experience tells me that for my style (basically scale) the 821s shoudl be fine. Many recommend the 3050s but that's over £100s worth for three of them (I have one anyway). Alternatively there is the Hitec HS225MG, which is still metal geared, but slightly smaller, and only about £20 each, but will the location holes line up for the 600?

Helpful comments would be appreciated please.

I think 225 are to small for a 600 heli, if you are after a cheaper servo ive just brought 3 mks ds1210 servos for my 600, they were just short of £70
Futaba 3152s are another 1 to look at,

Many thanks, Josh. That is really helpful. I remember going to Newton Abbot racecourse in the 80s and seeing helicopters flying then. Still a strong group?

I fly at buckfastleigh about 20 minutes from there, I think newton abbot is more a plane club now.

Noted, Josh. I am webmaster for Webster Flyers in Taunton. We also have a list of local clubs on the site. Will check NAHC is on it. If not will add it. Regards, Nigel

End story. The MKS DS1210 looked good - particularly the video where they were thoroughly immersed in water and mud and still worked - though who would wish to fly a helicpter in water? However the key UK supplier could not be contacted so it was on to Fast Lad who showed them listed but not currently in stock. Phoning Fast Lad I asked what they had at equivalent specs and price and they came up with Savox on special offer at £25.oo each, so went for three of those.

Savox are supposed to be the bees knees (at least for some). NAHC is now listed in our club directory.

I don't think the 821's being used on a 50 machine had n e thing to do with them being plastic geared as theres loads of plastic geared servo's on the market for 50 size use ..3152's are plastic geared but work well in a 50 sized machine as cyclic servo's .. At the end of the day these servo's work well from learning upto and including 3D ... Yes they might not be as fast as 610's and not metal geared but for a budget digital servo they do work well .. Theres others on the market as well so just choose a price you want to stick to and then find the best that the money you have can get

I think the problem with the 821's was somethin to do with the splined gear rhat the servo arm goes onto shearing off.
                    Could be wrong though
