  • Trex 700N purchase question.

Hi all, i am mulling the idea of purchasing a Trex 700N and am looking at something like the T-REX 700N 3G COMBO from Midland helicopters which has the following:

    T-REX 700 Nitro 3G Kits Set X1

3G Programmable Flybarless System X1 set

    690D Carbon fiber blades X1

2 In 1 Voltage regulator combo X1 set

    DS610 Digital servoX3 set

    DS650 Digital servo X1

    GP750 Head lock combo X1

    RCE-G600 Governor X1

My question is what else would i need to buy so i could be airborne as i have not had a nitro heli before.

Also i have a Spektrum DX6i Tx, would i need to upgrade?

Many thanks and look forward to your replies.

Ps i'd also be looking at getting the Robbe Helicommand Rigid, would that work on the 700n?

      you would need the following
a 7 channel radio dx7 would be a good start
a 90 size engine and pipe
      fuel
      fuel pump
      a starter

how long have you been flying ??

I have taken the approach to not tell people how to spend their money but on this occasion I would point this out to you; get a kit without the electronics if possible. There is 3G units going second hand that will have very little usage because people have switched to a better unit.

Also if you are going FBL then in theory you do not need the GP750 gyro.

You are also unsure about the radio needs for this model. It might make some sense to do some more research into what is needed for a 90 size nitro before parting with any money.

I don't care what shop it is. They need all the money they can get right now to stay in business. They will be more than happy to sell anything in the current climate.

                cool thanks millerman,
Can i ask why is a 7 channel radio required (what are they all used for) for the 700n, only reason i ask is coz my brother has a raptor 30 nitro and he runs it on a DX6i and i just thought (wrongly lol) they are the same, just bigger.

PS i priced it complete at around £1300 (Excluding: fuel, fuel pump, a starter) for DX8, heli, OS.91HZ-PS Ringed Helicopter Engine, High Performance 90 Muffler, that sound reasonable for the gear?

I had a flybarred 700 and they do fly very well. If you look at the list of parts in the first post you will see that more than necessary is on the list.

rookieRC just needs to slow down a little, think through what is exactly needed and go with a firm plan to the shop.

I also mentioned that people are now selling off 3G units so there is an ideal oppotunity to save some money. I am not dissing Align electronics just suggesting he look at the second hand market first.

I know what you mean re looking second hand.....and i am in no rush to get it, i learned that lesson with the twister even though it is a nice heli.

I would suggest you do not get the PS engine. I don't think the pump will offer you anything. Take a look at the HZ-H or the Align 91H. Take your shopping list to more than one shop and see if you can get better pricing.

I looked into this a while ago when I was after a fbl 700.

I came to the conclusion that if you buy the kit and electronics separately your looking at:

                        - 700 flybarred kit (as you cant buy a fbl 700 kit in the UK) - around £500

                        - Servo's - around £200 including throttle servo

                        - 700 flybarless head (Align, mikado etc) - around £100

                        - Second hand 3G unit - around £100 (may be able to pick one up for less if your lucky)

                        - Governor/regulator/rx lipo - Around £50 - £70

So if all bought separately it will probably be around £950

If you buy the 700 3G combo for the offer price at the moment for £799 all you need to do is sell the flybarred head (probably get £50 - £70 for it) buy a flybarless head for around £100 and buy a standard throttle servo. You can still save around £100 with the combo deal and you don't have to buy all the bits separately.

I decided that based on this its cheaper and easier to buy the 700 3G combo and replace the head. Second hand 3G units are cheap at the moment but it seems when you look into it £799 is quite a cheap price for all the kit you are getting.

                        Hope this helps
                        Sam

agreed on this i use the align 91-h and its very good also agreed on the second hand 3g units but they are really on the electronics so you would need the 3g head which is around £100 pounds

This would go in place of the 3G electronics that you seem to want to buy, you'd have to use one or the other, not both.

Depending on why you are looking at this unit, there may be better choices out there or you may actually just be better off without it at all.

If you explain why you are considering it I'm sure people will chip in with more advice.

You will only need a 7 channel radio if you want to run the governor. It's by no means essential to have a governor, particularly if you are not flying 3D.
