Yeah it's a hex shaped shaft all the way. I drilled the two holes using the original wand as a guide. I have a friend with a workshop with vice and drillpress etc. which makes it a bit easier.Originally posted by horneteer View PostI intend to do the mod on a hex tool that is hexagonal all the way along the shaft. Only hastle as far as I can tell would be drilling 2 holes in the shaft. Did you do that? I think that a couple of set screws from the reverse side of the shaft holder would secure a hex shaft, like a pinion on a motor.
How are you getting on with your ballless shaft
? I expect that it gives a much more robust coupling because of the increased contact area. I wonder if it might put undue loads on the plastic bearing block if the shaft deviates from vertical
The problem with just putting screws in from the threaded side as set-screws is that the Align wand assembly has a split, I have no idea why, but this would mean set-screws would not have something very solid to push against, it would be trying to spread the holder. It might still work but just doesn't look very sound.
All my helis have a straight shot to the start lug vertically so there's never any need to be at an angle and so far this has not been an issue. The Raptors and Ely.Q have their own one-way bearing and the Robbe's and Hirobo have rigid starting assemblies that require the one-way in the starting wand and so far both types work just fine with the straight ended wand. (for me, part of the reason for cutting the ball off is due to the very shallow starting lugs on the Robbe's that are notorious for getting worn with ball type wands but most helis are perfectly fine with a ball wand).Kasama, Minicopter, Henseleit, JR, Shape, Beam

I have about 10 3 Cell Lipos and only 3 really fit.Originally posted by J3DI View PostWhat might be handy if you could post the lipo's you're using that fit well in the starter. For now, i'm hoping that the 3S 2200 lipo I had for my transmitter might be upto the job????
They are;
Phoenixtech 1800mah - it's very thin and just drops in with room to spare
Mystery 2200
Align 2150
The others either don't fit at all or you'd have to stuff them in way too tight.Kasama, Minicopter, Henseleit, JR, Shape, Beam

It is split to clamp.Originally posted by trillian View PostThe problem with just putting screws in from the threaded side as set-screws is that the Align wand assembly has a split, I have no idea why, but this would mean set-screws would not have something very solid to push against, it would be trying to spread the holder. Everyone else on the planet uses a simple set screw and it works fine, so why Align had to re-invent the wheel I have no idea.Originally posted by horneteer View PostAh yes, good point. It is split to clamp.Kasama, Minicopter, Henseleit, JR, Shape, Beam

Anyone using this Align Battery 3s 2250 30C Fast Lad Performance
or the 40C Fast Lad Performance
As I need to order a Lipo, the one I have that fits doesn't have the balls and the one I have that does have the balls, won't fit!
