  • Changing the Tank

Ordered the repair bits for my 700 late on Monday night and they arrived today - thanks Fast Lads, excellent service.

I've just spent some considerable time and quite a bit of cussing trying to remove a broken fuel tank from the frames and replace it with a new one, without having to completely disassemble the main frames. What a bar-steward of a job? I ended up pulling the old one out away from the exhaust side, after pulling out the rubber cushion on that side first. And as for getting the new one in....... I was swearing a bit trying to squeeze the rubber bank in on that one side.

It's all done now, but am I missing the point with this replacement? Is there a simple and quick way to do it? Maybe someone who's done lots of 700 repairing (not wanting to name names ) has an answer?

I always spray Mr Sheen all around the rubber bits then it slids in and out a lot easier.Use a 1.5hex tool or something small to poke at the rubber to keep it in place when refitting the tank in.

    Hope this helps next time

Thanks Ben, sounds like an excellent suggestion - I should have asked this question before getting angry in the workshop!

I did a couple of times, get angry then one time I realised that I use that when sliding the torque tube in the boom, so easy so I tried it with the tank and hey presto loads easier

Why?? If Fast-Lad sent the parts then they've done their bit... It's RoyalFail that's the problem...

I ordered some parts on Tuesday, Fast-Lad sent them on Tuesday, but they are not here... I also payed for next day delivery...

            Fast-Lad only send, Royalfail delivers...

Yep your right Adrian it's Royal Fail yet again.
Just had an email from Andy at fastlad & it seems
Royal Mail lost the tracking number on their system as he couldnt trace it.
The parcel arrived here at 12.45 so that nearly didnt make the deadline
                  on the 2nd day either.
The postman gave the usual "i dont know" when I asked where it had got to yesterday.
This isnt fastlads fault, I apologise for suggesting it was when i clearly didnt have all the facts.
I see they offer a courrier at £6.99
I think I will be using that in future &
not giving royal mail any more of my regular custom with fastlad

What a nice bloke that Andy is tho he kept his cool with me &
believe me that couldnt have been easy, sorted the situation & offered free post on my next order.
So all in all fast lad do, as Steve said offer excelent service.
Even when it doesnt quite go to plan

                    All sorted now mate

                    Back on topic tho.
A mate had the same problem putting in his 700 tank.
He brought it up the field to let me have a look at it & i found the other
easiest way is to use a bit of spittle on the rubbers.
Had the tank back in it in a few minuets.

The trex tanks are extremely sturdy units & do not manipulate at all.
The only other thing I have done is blocked up the breather with a pipe
with bolt in the tube & attached a length of pipe to the feed & sucked as much
air out of the tank as i physicaly can & then pinch the pipe so the air cant rush back in.
This does help as the tank compresses just that little bit to ease it into
                    the rubbers a bit easier.
