  • Thrown in at the deep end.

Just received a very unexpected present from my girlfriend. Its a Trex 700 Limited edition !!!!!! Ive never had a nitro before though. Up until now ive been flying my Beam E4. I can see by the instructions the extras i need are engine, pipe, receiver and a standard servo.

Currently ive been using a DX6i on my heli's but looks like im needing to upgrade now to a 7channel. So im guessing a DX7 will be good?!? For the standard servo is just getting another DS610 like in the kit ok ? As not sure on which engine to get as it says the 91H or 91HP ??

Any advice will be great as im very confused and excited...

    Thanks in advance
    Matt

You could use the 610 or the 620 for throttle, both work great!

As for the engine, I'd get the "H"

    Fast Lad Performance

And the TX, the DX7 is a great TX, it'll be perfect!!

    Have fun!!

Nice unexpected pressie. Some of the guys in the club are loving the 700 with the YS91 SR it's giving them some lovely mid range and masses of torque. The 610 is probably overkill for the throttle but I'm sure it will do just fine. Good luck with it.

Wow now thats a pressie you lucky man.
A DS610 would be fine as it will be for the throttle, even a futaba 3152 would be fine.
I would go for a non pumped OS91HZ or a YS91SR engine and a align or hatori pipe.

You don't strictly have to move up the DX7 in terms of channels until you want to run a governor.

In any case that's a very nice gift and I'm sure a nice surprise

Agree on the 610 as standard as like you say it keeps it uniformed

Either Align engine as there is no difference only the head size.

I used the blue headed one before and now use a YS91SR.

Either way you cant go far wrong.

            btw, you lucky git

Thanks for all the replies guys. It was a very very nice gift!

Trillian i have heard people say you dont need to upgrade the tx if you dont use a governor what does this actually mean though ? Im guessing the governor is restricting/limiting the engine speed but not sure the advantages/disadvantages of this. Flying my electric ones has made me blind to this stuff.

and i beleive you can run a gov on six channels if you only run one headspeed

Well, there are a few different governors out there and some do different things but essentially it lets you set a target headspeed and the governor will then attempt to maintain that headspeed by riding the throttle for you. The CSM revlock 30 and 40 can also reduce pitch if the headspeed drops and raising the throttle alone doesn't restore it.

It also limits the revs so you don't over-rev in situations where the load on the head is reduced.

At the moment I am not yet using governors although I have a few and having flown without one now I can see the advantages.

The bigger picture is that the governor effectively un-couples the throttle with the collective when needed, which is not really possible without one.

But you can do a lot of flying first before feeling you need one.

true, I have been doing exactly that - until I got the DX7

Thanks for that! Maybe i will try without for now then just so i dont have to by new tx. So i guess i just use a normal 6 channel rx with my DX6i then ?

You can, but for a bit more you can get the 7 channel rx if you think you might change to the DX7 later (or I suppose for arguments sake you could always sell the AR6200 later as well).

                        I have a DX7 but I have a couple 6 channel rx's on a few helis where I don't need more than 6 channels.

yes and if you want to use a gov you can use the + and- on the gain channel to power it as it only needs the signal wire for the gyro. best getting a dx7 when you can afford one though

Being honest, for the extra dosh it would cost, I would go straight for the DX7/AR7000 combo. The DX6i is fine, but the 7 would cover you more for future purchases etc
