  • Confused on how to fit header tank

    Hi all

I am a bit confused on how to fit the header tank to my 600. I am not sure how to attach it to the side of the main tank. Seems I need some kind of attachment to go from the frame to be able to screw the bolt from the header tank into.

Anyone guide me on what I need?

    Cheers

Have a look here Richard http://www.rcheliaddict.co.uk/showth...ght=600+header

Still looking to fit one to mine but hanging on to see if a purpose made becomes available.

Mine are stuck on the side of the main tank, with that JP Perkins "ying yang" double side tape (strongest foam tape made by Man. . . . probably). I've also added a couple of loooooong thin cable ties, that go around the main tank. Whole lot slides in a out of the frames/grommet with a minumum of fuss.

Tape had lasted nearly a year on the oldest machine, so the cable ties are probably over kill.

I'd NOT drill a hole in the frames, there are already plenty of holes in that area already, only person I know who drilled an extra hole, broke the frames in a crash, exactly where he'd drilled the hole !

I have used high strength Velcro and the thing is stuck pretty tight.
I check it after every flight and so far (3 gallons) it hasn't budged.

one other suggestion. you could save the hassle and just buy a fuel magnet. 2 minutes to fit it and your away. i stopped using header tanks 2 years ago now.....love the fuel magnets. if you treat them right (always keep fuel in tank and do not run dry) then they will last a long time. i have only ever replaced one in 2 years.

ofcourse if your adding a header for more flight time then a fuel magnet will not give you that.

                cheers

Didn't realise that was another advantage of a fuel magnet, coolio, thanks for passing it on

oh, i should add a fuel magnet will drain every last drop of fuel from your tank to keep your engine running..........if you want. i wouldn't recommend that however.

                    cheers

I stopped using Fuel Magnets some months back, I'm a lazy bugger, so always forgot to refill my tank after a flight, they never lasted much more that a few weeks (my fault I guess. . . . . .but). As a matter of interest, it's the contamination of the exhaust that breaks the foam down, refilling the tank after a flight "cleans" them up with new fuel.

Also, when they do breakdown, they pollute the fuel with the gunk from the foam, and on my machines it thus enters the engine. I never run a filter on the fuel line, I rely on having one on the exhaust and double filtering from the fuel can. (seen too many engine problems with clogged input filters).

If your main reason for running headers is the "safety belt", then a fuel magnet doesn't help. (time to practise those auto's )

i just use normal clear stuff from the LHS for tubing, nothing special there.

if you break a fuel magnet up then it is 99% your own fault. 2 years, have 5 of them, replaced a single magnet and at that it was paranoia made me do it since i had the tank out. didn't need changed.

the older magnets i'm told failed a lot but they changed the material a long time ago.

still, as you said it doesn't offer a safety net in terms of more fuel.

btw, i NEVER ever ever refuel my tank after flying. i normally have enough fuel left in the tank to cover the magnet. if the magnet is covered then thats good enough for me. i never full refill the tank.

also clogged up filters are better than clogged up carbs surely.

                          cheers

Clunk line. . . . . . never ever use that crappy black stuff that's sold as clunk line. It degrades and softens in fuel, the dye discolours the fuel, and the stuff expands and falls off the clunk weight. This all happens within a few days. . . . . . .been there, done that.

The clear clunk line from Align works just great, and they sell it seperately as well.

If you never refill after flight, because you always have fuel left. . . . . you need to try a little harder. . . . . . . . I feel like I've failed unless my main tank is dry
