  • Trex Super Pro build, problem aligning bottom main bearing.

Need some help please. Brother and I bought our Super Pro's from Bob up at Skyline and have been busy building them. We have been taking our time and not rushing, to make sure we do it right. Now my brother has got his main frame and bearing ligned up perfectly, the main shaft fits in perfectly and is so smoooooth. Mine on the other hand is not. I have done everything I can think of to try and get it good, taking it out, turning it around, turning it over and even swapping it over with another one from a freind, but its still not right. Its definately the bottom bearing as when I run the main shaft through the 2 top bearing they are nice and smooth. I have been using a nice flat peice of glass to check the alignment with a good quality square and although I can get it reasonably good, as soon as I tighten the screws up it goes out of alignment. The main shaft definately feels tight and wont just drop down on its own as my brothers does.

Now is this ok to use and just carry on with the build and what are the affects of flying with it like this, will it damage other parts or make the Heli fly badly? Any tips on how I might be able to resolve this.

    Look forward to your replies.

Try changing the bottom bearing. Or try your main shaft in your brothers machine and see if its smooth. That should identify your problem.

Thanks for the reply, but have tried both of these and still no luck. Bought some spare main shafts and tried these, still no luck.

Are you assembling it with the mainshaft fitted?

I've always built mine that way and as long as all is square as you tighten up you will find the shaft should be an nice fit.

sorry if this is a bit vague but I'm typing quickly as I go out bait digging

As you have suggested Phil, I have done this but a soon as I tighten up the screws the main shaft goes tight on the bottom bearing.

Tightening screws in a different order may help?

Loosen the bearing block's. Insert the mast (less the head block etc) and adjust so its true. Then starting with the bottom one tighten them working upwards.

If this fails, then the frames holes must be out on the bottom block = take it back to Skyline and Bob will sort it out. Don't alter the frames in anyway as this will invalidate any warranty issues that Skyline can bounce back to Align.

Unfortunately Stuart, I had to modify the tail servo cut out so it would take the DS 8900G as it wouldn't fit as it was, so I guess that's me knackered then. I originally had to change the side rails when I first got the heli as they had damaged engine mount holes, so I'm not having a lot of luck with this so far.

Provided you haven't modified the frame points where the holes for the brearing block's reside I'm sure Bob will have a case with Align that its a manufacturing defect. However, if youhave no luck fixing it yourself then I would take it into Skyline as is and ask them to have a look at it for themselves. Bob and alike do talk to thier customers and offer great levels of support before and after purchasing a kit.
                  Cheers

                    Update

Popped into Skyline this morning to see Bob. He had a look and said it was OK and it didn't matter that it was tight. So will now get on with the build and hope, work permitting, to have it finished by the weekend.

Thanks to all who posted a reply.
