  • Crashed my pro today :(

Finally got round to fitting the revlock 10 to my 600 pro today then I go & crash it due to a sick engine, I'm absolutly gutted
The engine seemed to be running very hot after a first test hover with revlock on it. I had already richened the mixture as a precaution because the weather was very hot today I did a quick flight then landed to check the back plate. It was red hot so I richened it up again, about another 4 clicks then flew it again. All seemed well & I started to get into my usual routine after my week off on my hols fishing. Then at the top of a large loop the engine almost cut.
I managed to get it upright again & swung her round to head quickly back to the patch for an emergency landing, but she was well behind the only tree & hedge row on that side of the patch & loosing height quickly with no power.
I just clipped the tree on the way past it & at that moment decided an arival just over the hedge was unavoidable so hit the hold & prayed the heli would land in the long grass this side of the hedge. It did land exactly where I had hoped but with a little more damage than I thought its basicaly done the blade grips the flybar main shaft & under carriage. On ariving at the crash the engine was burbling away nicely in the grass
I'm only guessing but I think it may have just been a blockage in the fuel system causing the hot run & me richening it probably wasnt my greates idea then the blockage cleared itself & the engine had no power due to being super rich.

    Oh what, these things happen

    Please accept my condolences.

When I had my Raptor 50 the fuel tubing in tank split ( didnt spot it for few flights) and engine cut out numerous times in loops etc, taught me autos quickly! Lucky landings! clear field no obstacles.

Few weeks ago flying 50 just done lovely auto went back up flipped her on back quite low altitude, oops shit forgot idle up, ouch blades, feathering shaft, canopy, flybar and few links. Spectators "gosh it just bogged" yeah no kidding!

It happens never mind cheer up

      Cheers Tommy.
Yeh I sure know these things happen mate, just of all the helis it was this one I would have least wanted to prang
The parts that are broke are minimal & she will be back in the air again soon.
Fortunatley I got my Knight 3 d electric flying in the same afternoon so my overall heli mood is still very upbeat.

Sorry to hear of your crash Martin, about the mixture I may be mistaken but when the temp rises the oxygen content decreases which enrichens the mixture, When the temperatures are cold the motors go better as they have more oxygen thus a leaner mixture.
If I am wrong, I am sure someone will enlighten me. I assume you are measuring the backplate temperature with your finger, I dont do this anymore as it is so subjective to your own pain threshold. I use a heat sensor which I bought some time ago.

Sorry to hear of your 'heavy arrival'. It might be worth checking the head bolts, I've read of quite a few cases where leaning off in flight has been due to this, check the pressure nipple on the exhaust too.

At least 600N parts are reasonably priced plus they come in pairs so you'll have spares next time

Unlucky mate, hope you get it back together soon, not funny when the engine dies, been there 3 times now, one a blown piston, another complete melt down and run out of fuel in an invert hover once, luckly all 3 times it was landed safetly, but if it was out of position would of been a different mater.

                  Sorry to hear that Martin

I had a similar hot engine on the Sport a while back. Nothing obvious was found but as a precaution, one of the guys at the field told me to take off the carb and pump a cup full of fuel through it, then unscrew the needle valve and repeat. It was as good as gold after that.

Check any fuel filters for crap too.
                  Cheers, Lee.
