Charlie started Alees and his family flew in the team, brother, uncle, auntie mabel and son etc. Not sure what happened but he left and with him went the Outrage style he brought to it. A very odd business is the heli design thingy, Bert joined then left, Outrage go to the wall (Chinese firm realised they can't challenge the might Align). Or, just ceased to be without so much as a whimper. The only constant appears to be the mighty hoover, Align. Someone please challenge mediocrity, at least the Alees thing was a change from the normal run of the mill, ground breaking same as, flat carbon airframe with some mulched together regurgitated new design feature never thought of before

Mikado has been around through all of this too... (Just pointing out that align isn't the only contender)

Agree but still haven't recorded the sort of sales that Align have, no figures to back that up mind you so just a feeling. Don't see many of the extremes in 700 or 800 guises which is the only departure from their usual plastic fantastic, so no real design innovations etc ( I know why fix something that's not broken )

The Katana will be released. It is about to go into testing and parts have been manufactured. It will come with a dampened tail drive and new tail drive gears.

Imo this is their own fault. Mikado stuff is awesome - the VControl, Vbar, the way the logos fly. However, their pricing is getting rediculous IMO. Right or wrong, most people want a nice model that looks and flies well without seriously breaking the bank. Logos are all plastic, yet they still charge luxury carbon fibre/bling rates. This is just my opinion, and I've stated it before. Yes the parts count is low and is a good, simple design, but it's like brand A are charing a premium for lots of parts, design, and quality, but brand B are charging a premium because it has low parts count and manufacturing cost, ie an easy build and "cheaper crash costs". Can't win really.

I don't mean to bash Mikado, I think their stuff is great. I just wish their prices were a little more realistic. This really applies to all brands/kits as it's a niche hobby - really they can charge whatever the fook they want and us mugs will pay it

He did, they parted company I believe. I've looked for the thread I saw it on but they changed hands and it's now Evolution Helis

Same company and owner without Charlie.

I agree about Mikado. Great brand put pricey. You pays your money you make your choice.

Evolution should present another alternative. Being patient is difficult but hopefully soon we should have another Nitro and the EVO will be feature complete soon and we'll worth looking at.

I was thinking that - I have their 2016 brochure on my desk...

They're almost a genuine competitor to Align - good spares availability, and comparable kit prices [Align do well with combos, but the SAB 500 Sport combos aren't bad prices.]

I dunno. It's a weird one. Align are like Ford. Nothing too special but very popular as they tend to just work. SAB are premium but the price reflects it, and they haven't been around as long. I'd say go up to 100 different heli pilots around the world of different ages and skill level, and ask them to name a heli brand, and I bet 50%+ say Align.

I'm not saying Align are better than SAB or vice versa, I just think Align is often the go to brand for getting into the hobby, and I know a lot of people stick with them as they progress because they are decent models. It's just annoying how often they regurgitate the same "new" airframe.

Another advantage of the spherical tank is that you can put the fuel outlet anywhere so easier for maintenance and a sphere is better for withstanding pressure if you're running a regulated engine. 1 friend has split 2 Trex 700n tanks with his ys120srx engine.
I forgot to mention. The picture shows three options in the skids. I hope the standard kits aren't an optional extra...

Back on topic, it's not like I'll be getting one anyway. I think I've flown maybe 5 flights this year so there's not really any point me buying anything...

To be fair SAB are the new align... I don't think align have released much in the last year anyway, others are innovating far more nowadays.

Harry; Mikados arent that expensive - price one up, you'll be surprised. 690sx is cheaper than a tRex 700!

Hehe sad but true. To be fair, they're never extinct when I buy them. The Fusion and G4 were massively popular - maybe I made them uncool? Fairly likely I guess

I don't fly all that often at the moment so I can't justify the expense (and money lost) by chopping in and changing models every year.

It happened to me twice. First the Outrage Fusion 50 and then the Beam Avantgarde. Beam isn't extinct but just no shops stock them anymore. When I bought them we had FL and others stocking everything, then some shops in the USA and now nada, you have to order direct from Korea for Beam stuff and Outrage has vanished.
