Piro Flips

Break the move into 3 parts. The initial piro flip, the stationary piro and the second piro flip. To get a piro flip right you need to be able to piro in one spot both inverted and upright. If you master that first the piro flip is the easy bit. It is a lot harder to learn a prio flip and a stationary piro at the same time. HTH

Right, will get practicing on the spot piro's. They sound easier than they are as my heli always seems to drift, especially inverted.

Drifts for real or on the sim? Its really important to have CG and head setup just right when you start piro moves. I try to have my helis with no trim whatsoever as it can have weird effects when inverted.

With the piro on the spot, at first pick a spot in the piro where you are going to correct. so do a slow piro and correct when tail in for instance, but not stopping the piro. keep doing it both right way up and inverted. eventually you will be able to piro faster and will start to correct all the way round the piro.

I am still working on it but once you get it straight in your head what you are trying to achieve it becomes a lot clearer.

I found you need to watch the tail , and start start stirring at a certain location. Its only practice thats lets you keep control of the heli from drifting. In pheonix I can do it pretty much stationary a few foot of the ground now but only with the nitros. the smaller ones seem to drift quite a bit but again its probably just more practice. I found that now I have learned how to do them, something has clicked in my brain and it makes other moves alot easier to work out. Just need to have the cahoonas to take it to the field.

My heli's have always drifted. But one day they will drift one way, the next day they will drift another way. Not by a lot but just seems odd. Inverted mine always drift backwards, even if I trim them not to drift right way up. Quite odd. I'll keep practicing thoughm only been flying just over a year so got plenty to learn!

Random drift is mainly when there is slop somewhere in the head or cyclic servo's. Also worth checking your dampers and bearings. I never got on with the Align dampers, only seemed to last a couple of flights before they were shot.

As for the trim, I think I read somewhere once that if you trim the rightway up, it will not have the desired result inverted. I think it was moyesboy that mentioned it.

Best bet is to have no trim at all or little as possible and learn your corrections, fly round it so to speak

I've just started doing half piro flip for real from inverted to right way up (i just find it easy that way). To keep piroing on the spot after the flip is just a matter of correcting the heli. Learning to hover in all orientations helps alot (inverted side on is the tricky one for me). If you learn all the hovering orientations and practice bail-out manouvers, it should in theory be second nature when stopping the piro flip with the heli at an angle to correct.
As others have said, it can take ages to learn and master.
I've been practicing for 6 months now on pheonix and there still messy as hell lol

I've noticed that once you kinda get Piro flips (only on the sim so far) then they seem to be the basis for pretty much most 3D moves (piro ones anyways) Although I'm still seriously struggling with the "gin sling" (piro tick tocks/piro rainbows) hard to get the stir/piro rate consistant!!
It's great to hear people progressing with this amazing trick!! I remember watching them when I first got into the hobby and was just blown away by them

Dis agree on that, piroing figue 8s with a flip at the centre from upright to inverted is harder

Your right, piro flips are the ley in moving on from general 3d to everything else out there. Its amasing if you watch a flight just how much theyre used. Most transitions from manouvers are done with a piroflip of some form.

It is one of those moves that if you nail it all the other piro moves start to fall into place, i can do them but struggle to keep it in one place, though the driffting is getting less and less each time and it is helping with other manovers as well, it is defo one of the key moves to nail
