    • OK, here's a new one...

Along The Road - A Little Bit of Argentina

This one I worked with the author, Garret Veley AKA Mantis of Destiny, and he graciously provided a high rez version of the image to work from. Thanks a bunch Garret!

      http://www.box.net/shared/hp7kgpk40t

Again a first, working with a sloping scenery. Hmmmm...

      Hope you enjoy.

Oh - set your starting postion to the jutting outcrop.

      Cheers

      Bob C.

A River Wash in NW Argentina

Again I worked with the author Garret Veley, who provided a higher rez base image to work from.

Plenty of room to stretch out

        Thanks again Garret!!

Thanks to Garret Veley for the High Rez base image!!

Now... for a challenge - Garret said it is very windy here. I didn't set a weather condition, but you should crank it up and go for it.

          Cheers

          • Hi all,

I fixed the lighting a bit on the St-Peter-Ording-Strand scenery. The ambient is now more bright.

Full original package here: PhoenixRC - sceneriess jimdo page!

            Replace StPeterOrding-Strand_v2.pxf with mine.

            Thanks Harald!

              • Thanks for these new flying sites guys, really excellent work and great fun to fly at. Does anyone have any new flying sites in the works?
And are we any closer to having the sites using Harold's photography back online and available again?
Once again, many thanks for all the work done to get these new fields happening. The RC community so often restores my faith in humanity with your generosity.

                • Admin should delete this thread since it is just a thread of broken links now..........

                  • I just tried two links and two downloads and they ran perfectly. So why should this thread be deleted? If there are many broken links I would prefer to inform the forums member.
                    Cheers,

                    • Harold, you are right, there are a couple of links still live but the vast majority are broken.
I believe this is due to your not allowing people to use your pics to build sites.
Are sites using your pics ever going to be available again? I understand discussion has been had about resolving this but no change to site availability using these pics has occured. Is there a problem?

                      With respect,

                      Matt.

                      • Hi Matt,
after having spent several weeks of constructing the "Schneeszenerie" by struggling hard with "Creator" and many attempts of mine to support him by screenshots and measurement-datas Alan seemed to have lost any motivation to finish his conversion.
He had e-mail-contact with the Phoenix-team and they could help him with some tipps.
But without a better tool all construction remained guesswork. Moreover there is a lack of alphamasking-feature so flying behind the leaveless branches is not very realistic.
I didn't like scenery-conversions of my sceneries which are not well done.
Alan's work was well done, but the results would be much better with better tools.
My often repeated offers of cooperation had no result by others.
So I think we have to wait.
                        Cheers,
                        Harald

                        • Ahhh, I understand now Harold. Thank you for explaining the situation. I certainly agree that your photography deserves a quality conversion.
Have you considered working with Phoenix directly? They should easily do a full featured conversion of your pics. They could also easily give photography credit in the site preview.
I hope you can get your photography converted to your satisfaction. They would make for some truely spectacular flying sites.

                          Cheers,

                          Matt.

                            • Hi,

I have just made two flying sites, please feel free to "beta" test them , they arn't perfect, as this is my first attempt.

                              1. Hertford Model Aero Club (Trocking site)
MEGAUPLOAD - The leading online storage and file delivery service

                              2. Hatfield (Old Airfield)
MEGAUPLOAD - The leading online storage and file delivery service

Please comment if there is anything to be corrected and most importantly Have Fun!

                              • Hi Myken,

                                first impression:

                                Snap29.jpg

                                Preview is corrupted.

                                -----------------------------
                                Snap30.jpg

Ground modelling: Better with Height maps - here the airplane is rolling.

                                ---------------------------------------------

                                Snap31.jpg

If the groundmap is flat and the real ground is sloping, the model decreases it's size too fast.

                                -------------------

                                Snap32.jpg

The same in this direction - stitching errors can be restitched better.

                                ----------------------------------

                                Snap33.jpg
Flying in all white sky is not good for estimating the speed of the plane.

                                ---------

                                Snap34.jpg

Left side: blurry, right side sharper.

                                -------------

Both sceneries without correct light position and shadow.
You named the sceneries "HQ", but the high-res-folder is empty.
Better resolution with cubefaces of 4096x4096 pix.

For your first attempt it is very good. Now you can begin to learn how to construct with Creator's tools.

                                Keep on the scenery-work! :-)
