      Yup that would be 72
Sofar 24 bit keeps the nice blur in the sky, saving lower quality always shows lines.

theres got to be a way to make them smaller and still keep the smooth gradients...
looking at the original phoenix sites the average size is around 30mb (still quite big but more people would be likely to download a 30 mb file compared to a 72mb)

after I hear from Harald and if the outcome is good i shall look into ways to improve this size ratio

Ok let me know if I can help. Seen DDS files from 2.0mb and 2.6mb. Photoshops Nvidia DDS plugin has many options.
But then again DDS is not the only format that can be used.
*.bmp; *.jpg; *.png; *.tif are also possible.

          Cheers!

            Hi all of you,

and thank you for your understanding of my motivation. I just offered Alan to make some nice sceneries together that we could publish under Creative-Common-License, then we won't have any EULAs and they could be published by everyone and changed by everyone (except commercial use). Alan has the skills of 3D-modelling and a good hand for the scenery-construction. And with better footage we won't have these jpg-artifacts, I just reworked "Schneezenerie" at 15916x7958 Pix. The sceneries will soon be online again. :-)

            Cheers!

              Good to hear Harald

Love to see some more sceneries with skies like the FMS one in http://www.szenerien.de/FMS-Szenerie...eeszenerie.zip
Each BMP is 12MB but zipped only 48MB so OK I think.

              Cheers!

Harald, thank you for your brilliant attitude about this. Looking forward to seeing the results of your collaberations with Alan.

Alan - A brilliant post earlier apologising to Harald. I'm pleased things are working out. Can't wait to see the result of you two working together. Also want to say thanks for all your hard work with the flying sites and the canopies.

thanks Harald.. you are a gent.
                  regarding the licences.

as i said earlier i dont really care if people use stuff i create then post on the net (if i cared, i wouldn;t post them its as simple as that) I give a lot of 3d models away for free on some sites with only 2 rules..... no commercial use and if you post an image using one of my models please credit me for the model and thats my only rules.
other than that people can do whatever they want with them.
models that are for sale have their own sections (marketplace)
and personal projects close to my heart stay firmly on my own hard drive

but you have to follow your own interests so i think you should still have your EULA on your images..
i can add to at the bottom saying i did the phoenix collision data and lighting .

Harald, I like to think of the heliworld as one truly worlwide family and your contribution provides pleasure to a great many of us. I look forward to seeing many more beautiful sceeneries in the future.

                    thanks Brian

                    • here's a sneak peek at the site I'm currently working on (with Haralds permission I may add )
the resolution is HUGE (highest rez i've ever seen in phoenix, more than double what the standard sites have) and im going to make it as accurate as i possibly can.
I'm spending a LOT of time on this one to get it just right (I owe the man that much at least), I'm about a third of the way through and its taken about 6 hours so far.

in the end the files will uncompress to around 65Mb (about a 30Mb zip) but it's gonna be well worth the download.

I had to scale the image down a bit (from 1280 to 1024 wide)
so i could upload it here but it still has more resolution than your average scene
