You generally don't even own the software. You pay for the right to use it, warts an all. The Phoenix dongle is integral to the package and should be covered by sale of goods. You won't have a leg to stand on if you have been using it for months though

The latest ISP craze is traffic shaping, which reduces end user QoS by stealth. During peak times, certain traffic is prioritised over other traffic. My own ISP recently doubled my connection speed for nothing, but over a period of a month my average throughput has fallen, thanks to the traffic shaping policy.

The writing to your MP is quite important at the moment. There is a consultation document going through the motions that will spell out what the ISPs and carriers have to deliver for the next 20 years or so. Last time I looked they were proposing to guarantee a blistering speed, just slightly quicker than a 28K modem. Pitiful.

The industry has had traffic shaping for years now and it is the only way you can have the sort of potential speeds you see in the headlines at quiet times of the day with the sort of costs people want to pay.

ahh packet shaping!!!! The internet would flow alot smoother if we could have star shaped packets!!!

My packet shaper is more oblong so if I have a 90 degree bend in my cat 5e it struggles to get thru!!!

For the record here - having updated mine to the next version and just tested my online function and it now works. I haven't had a chance to verify the robustness of this in terms of multiple players etc.

My system has had no mods between the old version that did work to the earlier beta versions that didn't and now to this one that does.

We have also 3 and yes 3 xbox's all online plugged into the same ISP and all run online problem so bandwidth isn't an issue.

The only variable that's changes in the whole equation is the version of Phoenix.

Now call me a synic or Spock for a minute but Logic tells me that if the only variable to change in the whole part of this is the software then I have to say that it is the software that was at fault.

Now - that my simple piece of deduction.

Now some are running fine and others arent thats a fact - so less negativity please on all sides. The idea was to try and get a picture of peoples systems / setup and experiences not have a slagging match.

Mark can you close this thread pls and I'll start a fresh one later on tonight. And on this one I would appreciate it if people not speculate on others but simple post there experiences.
