Don't think it's anything to do with the sim itself, I think I would know if the heli wasn't reacting properly to the Tx, so don't think it's that

I haven't flown them all and I know you can trim them but as I said I've used Phoenix for years and the models are very different. Just surprised me a bit
Something doesn't quite add up here. I'm still very much a beginner when it comes to 3D flying, having only flown RC helis for a year. I can do basic half piro-flips, tic-tocs and fly in all the basic upright and inverted orientations, but that's about all right now. But I don't have any problem at all flying the 700 Dominator in neXt on the "Luca" pro pilot settings. If anything it feels a bit too easy - I usually sim with the Goblin 380 which is far more lively. If I can do it then so can you for sure! That's why I'm thinking there's something not right with the way you have the sim set up. I know that if I try to sim with a real heli model accidentally loaded on my DX8 it completely messes it up. It has to be a default acro model with no rates or expo etc. I don't change any of the default heli settings in neXt, I just use the pro pilot presets or sometimes the "medium" settings for a lower head speed.

I haven't used Phoenix, but I have tried other sims like Heli-X and it wasn't that different. I can't believe Phoenix would be totally different. If it is then one of these two sims must be far removed from real life and I don't think neXt is. Even though I don't have any of the real life helis modelled in neXt, in general it still feels very similar to flying my other helis at the field. Maybe the pro settings on neXt feel a bit sharper, but I've been tuning my real helis recently to match, especially the fast piro rates, which I've grown to really like.

Pete, if you can fly well on Next then you are doing great, as imo its a lot more realistic and unforgiving than Phoenix.
I'm not in to small helis so i can't comment on how they feel verses real life.
Everyone is different i guess but if you are used to flying the larger helis, then like most sims a lot of the models will need adjusting to suit the individuals requirements.

I suppose I learned to fly with neXt, so it's my main reference point for everything. I do also find the default control settings are on the fast side, especially the "pro pilot" settings, but I've just got used them and I find anything else too slow now! But the bigger helis on neXt still float around fairly effortlessly so I was very surprised to read wavey's comments about the Align 700. I tried that model after reading this thread and it seems fine to me. There are slower models for sure, but it certainly doesn't feel out of control to me. As I'm currently building up a Goblin 380 I've been simming with this model on neXt for a month or so now and it really has sharpened up my responses!

Hey Pete, trust me it's not the way I've got the Tx working with the sim. If that were the case the Compass HV wouldn't fly so well and so be well balanced. I'll try the Luca settings and tell you how it went

For me in next I find I need to slow the tail down (as they all seem to rotate way to fast for me). Drop the Dual rates to 80% and have 30% expo. The 700E on that flies like my 700. I don't have any expo in the tx and the pitch curve is linear. Can't tell with the R5 yet as not had the weather to get it out and give it a full speed blast but the tail hold is already way too good in the sim as I run tiny tail blades on the real thing.

Having just had a couple of back-to-back flights of the Compass HV (Sebastian setting) and Align 770 Dom (Luca setting) I have to say the Compass feels significantly more relaxed - softer controls and more fluid. The Align feels pretty robotic by comparison, but still easy enough to fly - just different. Try the G380 on the Jonas setting! The Mikado neXt models fly really nice too.

I agree the tail on most neXt models is really fast. But that's something I've grown to really like and now have my real helis tuned to match. If I fly a heli now with a slow tail I find it quite frustrating! It's not that I like to piro fast, I just like the minimal stick movement to bring it round. But it is harder to fly smooth circuits on the sim with the tail so fast.

Sorry for being completely off topic: Peteski, I notice you are using a DX8 and neXt sim. Which interface/dongle/USB adapter are you using, please?

IMO the odd one out is Phoenix. Phoenix helis are way too locked-in and floaty. As a result flying is easier than on most other sims while next is pretty much average in terms of difficulty. Helis in Phoenix appear to fly on rails which makes flying very predictable and effortless. But of course, this is just my opinion and we know that when it gets to sims...

This USB adapter works better than the other dongle I bought and could not get to work correctly. Now I can actually fly around in the sim. However, even though calibration goes fine, I cannot get to select "Use 5 channels" in Heli-X's controller configuration. In the stick comboboxes for the various functions, it only shows 4 options: Slider, ZRotation, YAxis, and XAxis. The net result is that I am flying with 100% throttle all the time, though I guess I can control this by assigning keyboard keys or something. But what I would really like is to be able to use TH just like when flying IRL or in Phoenix Sim.

Any idea if this is possible with Heli-X and this USB adapter?
