I thought you had to have Win 7 before you can upgrade it to 8? Which makes Windows 8 more expensive?

Microsoft will end mainstream support for Windows 7 in 5 months time.

Now is not a good time to recommend a new installation.

I've installed 8.1 on several Macs in recent weeks and that would be my suggestion.

windows 8.1 32bit actually has the least impact as an OS for a while - no other version actually since XP has been this noticeably low on resources ... I even ran it in parallels with win8.1 32bit - 4 cores - 3gb ram 60+ fps ...

One of the developers is running 8. He uses a program called " start 8 " which makes it behave like 7 . And says yes it does run better than 7.sorry for any confusion I am not a computer know it all like some so can only pass on what I'm told.

In a way Ron you were spot on. Windows 8 or 8.1 uses a very different interface to previous versions. I've tried all three and for me, Windows 7 is by far the easiest I find. The 8/8.1 interface is Marmite.

its a new start screen, that's it. you dont have to use the new panels if you dont want to. windows 8.1 is much faster and, once you are used to it, easier.

theres even a start button in 8.1
