  • AccuRC

After much speculation, guessing, chinese whispers and frankly some complete bs that I've seen lately, I can now freely give my views and opinion of AccuRC.

I was asked to join the Beta team about two months ago and started with "beta2" People were shouting "its a game changer, takes sims to a whole new level" etc,so my expectations were high I couldn't wait for it to download so that I could sample this myself.Well after installing it on my rather inadequate pc, I was to be honest disappointed.Graphically it looked similar to phoenix(forgive me here thats the only sim I have used so the only one I can compare it too) The start up screen is grey with the AccuRC logo and random helicopter and loading bar, rather bland looking I think.Once loaded your taken to "the workshop" from there you select your model set your TX and once done your ready to fly.(I've missed out a lot of detail here, about binding, setting etc)
The first model I flew was the Raptor titan SE fb. On spooling up the heli, yep just like phoenix! but then lift off the ground and it immediately starts to move around so a little correction with cyclic and I'm losing height, more collective and it climbs and continues to drift about, this is when I realized it really does feel more "real" all of a sudden I'm having to control the heli constantly not just as you do in phoenix where you give it a gentle touch and it settles, this raptor is more alive. after a little gentle fly around I tried a stall turn,...after coming back at me head first I turned it....straight into the ground! Ok so time for a better Heli maybe? back in the "workshop" I changed to the Trex600 DFC fbl and went to fly.First impression with this heli was "its completely different" to the raptor.Although there is no physical feedback through the sticks I'm sure you all know that feeling you get when flying different models? some feel light some feel heavy, floaty, more stable etc?Well thats what you get.The flight of each model is a new experience and I had to relearn a lot of what I thought was how things flew.
After flying I played with the workshop, here you change whatever you want on the model by selecting from menu's and adjusting parameters.this is far more straight forward than phoenix because you actually adjust real values such as servo throws, flybar settings ect not votices and lift, drag etc.(again stacks of detail left out! we would be here all night)There are other features like a video recorder that will send your flights straight to social media/youtube etc for you and mp3 player with beeps included for you flight to music pilots.

Just a quick a description of what you get. now what I think.

Is it better than phoenix?..... yes. not graphically that I would say is a dead heat.(If you ask me which I prefere I would say AccuRC,,,,because ... depth perception is easier,) maybe because the camera follows you and slowly zooms so the heli does not become a small dot as quickly as it does on phoenix. Flight wise AccuRC wins by a good margin, the models fly much more realistically and each feels different to the last, and are far more easy to make adjustments on.(one thing I will add here is new pilots may feel lost when faced with all this workshop stuff, but each model does fly "out the box" and there will be many instructional video's released)so It will also make a great set up learning tool,as you can feel what each change does, and of course there is a reset button!

We are now on beta6 and it has improved with every release, the amount of work that has gone on behind the scenes is truly amazing, final release version ships to us tonight. The first release is helicopters only and only three flying sites but future updates are free and I'm sure will come thick and fast(I'm actualy looking forward to a plank or two!)

I've seen comments on social media about beta testers been sycophants and yes men telling the developers what they want to hear and I can tell you now categorically this is not true, every single one of us wants this to be a class leading product and have done our very best to give the developers as much info as possible to make this so.The robotic look on the youtube video is not present in use maybe thats a compression problem I dont know.

    I'm running

intel i3 3.30ghz(4cpu's) 4gb ram nvidia geforce gt520 graphics @1366x728 full screen. settings at medium 72fps

Thats just a very quick post of my thoughts as its late and there is a lot happening atm.

the AccuRC website should be live very soon.

Very well put, Ron - Many (many) thanks indeed.

Now, I'd understand if it is too early to tell but just thought I'd ask if there are any "networking" options/ideas that are being tested for the official release or maybe as a future version update? Do you reckon certain beta versions will be released as an optional download to the general users?

I remember there were limited download 'options' and thus a lot of issues when Phoenix version updates were released - there was frequent connection dropouts/ session lockouts etc etc - and when we posted our findings - the results were misinterpreted by some 'close' to the company as 'slating the newcomer', which, rest assured, was not so.

On a general note - I am certainly hearing a lot of appreciation for this sim and sure am looking forward to trying it.

    All the best,
    Jason

For the release there is no online capability but (Don't hold me to this) I'm sure Ashley did mention it would be part of a future update.wether this will be released straight to market or beta'd I wouldn't like to guess. But hope it would be beta'd first, because as you say Jason constructive criticism especially on open media can very quickly become negative.

Any questions you guys have please ask if i cant answer them directly I'll ask Ashley and try and reply asap.

can i respectfully ask that members don't start posting opinions before trying it themselves this thread is to try and give you as much direct honest feedback as possible, comments like "it'll need NASA's mainframe to run it" etc are not helpfull.

I tried it at Helifest , and didn't think the graphics were that special , on par with real flight , and as mentioned , they were having problems with the midland heli telly .

but the bit that impressed me was the feel ! It really felt connected , yes it needed tweaking to suit my tastes , and it did spin on spool up on grass ?! (That wouldn't happen in real life)
        but
i was impressed / intrigued ,.......... Following Midland Trevor's post on FB , for sure I will give it a go .

oh , yes it does need NASA to help out with some computing power lol
I believe it needs a quad core processor. Whatever the hell that is !

Oh in case your still sceptical ....... Colin mills , the boffin who designed the CSM heading hold gyro , that little thing that totally changed the face of 3D ,........ He's part of the team that designed this .
couple that with Ashley Davies (mr Anally Retentive Perfectionist) and I really doubt it's going to be rubbish.
It's going to cause a stir for sure , shame it comes out when I am flying at Venlo , but defo something to come home for .

Thanks for the write up Boggy. One thing I would like to know about but I've not seen discussed at all is the trainer options. Will the sim have orientation/hovering/maneuver/ trainers in it AKA Heli-X and RF?

No there is no direct training where you can control each seperate channel ,however in the FBL avionics settings is an ultra stable mode where the heli will right its self if you let go of the sticks. (in sport settings its so stable you can not even flip it over it will just right itself.)

All I will say is I actually use this sim. Sims are generally rubbish and very unappealing for me.

Forget the one at Midlands tent at HF as there was defo something wrong with it.

This does give a more real feel to it and Im still using it and will continue to use it. I was literally one of the first few on the team so have seen every iteration we had in the BETA and man has it come on leaps and bounds. With some fantastic input from some great guys coming back which helped make it awesome.

Mine runs perfect on my MBP. Heres a screens hot off my comp settings. All I can say its a quad core I7 and I run it on Bootcamp

The comments about rotor disk visibility have been noted and its a simple update to make it adjustable.wether that makes the release version I don't know. But honestly James is that more important than how it flies?

gazmk2 the power needed to run AccuRC has to start somewhere, if your lappy already struggles why would you expect this to be any different?thats a hardware not a software problem.
