Because I would gladly take a punt on a new sim if it ran on mac, if I have to run windows anyway I'm more likely to stick with something more established like realflight with a bazillion models and different competition and play type modes. Or in fact more likely just stick with phoenix which I already have.

Why a developer would ignore mac these days when making new software is beyond me tbh, I can understand the legacy ones like real flight or phoenix not supporting it but if you are starting from scratch it's frankly just stupid. Shame because I would definitely have tried this out had it been mac capable, and I'm sure I'm not unique in the market.

However, I did a quick search and couldn't see any mention of whether it will work on mac... to me that is the make or break part. There are SO many sims, including the extremely well regarded realflight that work on windows but not on mac. They are extremely popular these days and I would hope that any new simulator would be able to work on both windows and mac natively. If I have to run windows then I'd probably go for a sim like real flight instead.

Hopefully these guys can see how running natively on mac will give them a selling boost over the majority of the competition... I guess we'll find out soon enough. If they do then I'll happily buy into it, especially if people like jamin are rating the physics well.

The biggest problem with writing code for Apple stuff is that if you want to publish it then it has to go through Apple first so their programmers can go through your code and check it all meets their standards, etc. (no doubt taking copies of all the interesting stuff while they're at it) before they'll allow it anywhere near their machines. And they'll charge you an arm and both legs for the service and continuing charges for 'support and licensing' of your code.

It makes niche products such as flight-sims prohibitively expensive to develop and publish without going anywhere near the issue of being forced to trust that Apple won't do anything underhanded with your Intellectual Property. It's the primary reason why so little software gets released on Apple machines, especially when Mac's can pretty easily just run Windows through a VM or dual-boot setup.

In an ideal world everything would be on Apple Macs but the company stopping it - for very good reasons on Apple's part - is Apple themself.

Lets wait until they do a release of some sort, beta or etherwise. If Ash has had something to do with it, he's been away from the scene for a few years, maybe concentrating on this then why not give it the benefit of the doubt until it's been broken by us lot.
I hazard a guess that Ash Davies has been away from the scene for exactly the reasons you stated earlier, seems if your knowledgeable or good at something people just take a dig or try and pull it down... anyway going off topic I one cannot tell anything about how the sim flies by the short video shown other than it looks very good... I reserve judgement until I can actually have a go beta or not, be interesting so see how much it retails for when released, either way I'm not impressed what phoenix have done with V5 so I'll be looking closely
        cheers Lee

I believe that is only the case if you wanted to sell it through the mac app store... there are plenty of programs I've downloaded from the internet that are free/cheap/niche and work just fine after you acknowledge the warning for unknown publisher etc etc, or indeed that I have found directly on the mac app store.

Not to mention there are some sims that work on mac, just none that particularly inspire me (including neXt which is actually on the mac app store). If they can do it, why can't this developer?

I don't really buy it at all tbh, I don't see any evidence that those sort of arguments are remotely true outside of the mobile OS's.

Anyway, it's not on Mac so no point debating it. My interest just dropped from extremely interested to meh levels... I'm sure it'll be a great sim but personally for me they have reduced their potential market by overlooking OSX, but that's their choice.

You'll need to keep phoenix as your basher sim 'cos with the realism here - every time you crash you have to buy a spares module and rebuilt your heli..........

+1 on that. I was interested, but if it's windows only I won't bother.

guys... hang on a sec... you bought a niche machine with known compatibility issues, you have to be a little patient.

As others have said its expensive to develop for mac, requiring proprietary software like scaleform which is scarily expensive which would push up the price of the product and im sure you would all complain if they charged more for the mac version and i would certainly complain if I had to subsidise you getting it on your mac!

anyway... you are all jumping to conclusions, they have not said it will only be windows, just that it is only windows right now.

dont forget to tune in to ROTORS! on Tuesday night. Ash will be one of the guests, There will be lots of really great info and details which will have you queing outside your local shop like Barista outside an apple store drolling over the next iphone.

Sadly the "It's expensive to develop for Mac" doesn't hold water these days. Software can be developed for both using the same code for very little extra money these days. The only thing that holds it back is the developers themselves assuming it's too difficult to deal with both.

Anyway I'm sure the new sim will be great. But since being screwed over by buying Phoenix only to find I can't now upgrade it as it's too old ( so much for free updates for life ) I was looking for another sim, this one has missed the mark for me sadly if it's windows only

erm.... you might want to check your facts, particularly the bit about not being able to upgrade. this has been discussed many times and there are may places to get v3. I have an original pre production dongle and have v5 without ever having spent a penny

Officially I'm out of luck, I asked them and they say upgrading from the 2.5 disc I have is not supported. I'm sure I could find a torrent somewhere but that doesn't change the standing point of the makers of the sim.
