  • Could anyone recommend a battery to power up my servo's,receiver, gyro and onboard glow starter.
Would a 2S lipo be ok as I'm running standard sevo's or will I need a Bec or something else?
    Thanks

    • Futaba do a regulator PS-10 BR 5.2, it drops the voltage from a 2s or 3s lipo down to 5.2v, it's a tiny reg so if space is tight, it depends on how much room you have for your battery, use the biggest mah you can, say 5000mah.

      • You'll need a regulator if you want to use a 2s LiPo. Otherwise you would need HV servos all round, or some HV and then a step-down for the ones that are not HV.

What I would do is use a 2s LiPo and regulator and then fit something as a backup, like the Ultraguard. I think I have a few Fromeco Arizona regs sitting around not being used, I can have a look, they were always rock-solid on my nitro helis.

          • Got sorted with a Regulator, bought a Scott Gray Reactor X2 (thanks trillian).
I have been busy trying to do more of the cabin interior as I am waiting to buy a RX battery so can't really do much on the mechs/electrics yet.
Finished the seating it could be better but I'm happy with it overall. Also I have made a good start on the central console, having nearly completed the main section.
I have added a few more pictures to show where I'm up to.
One of my next jobs will be to sand down the exterior of the cabin ready to rivet, prime and paint,as well as the fuel pods and stabilizer etc.

            • Please could someone help and let me know what wires go where on my new receiver lipo.
I've never used a separate one before so I am a bit unsure.
              Thanks

              • On your battery you would be advised to connect the top reds together and top blacks together in parallel and then join to the input to your regulator
I assume that the T plug ( Deans ) is your input as the metal connectors are exposed...

I was looking at that battery wondering if it has two balance leads or two power leads.

---just realised, they make these packs for RX or TX use, so the white power connector on top is for use in a TX. Either of those or both could be changed to Deans for the regulator (or, as you say, change the reg to something else, like xt60)

                  • Any one of the top two wires you can use on the reg, the bottom wire is for balancing the cells when charging, I would personally change the top white plug over to dean's to match the reg or change both to xt60, leave the wire with the servo plug on.

I have the 3500 equivalent battery and those wires are only 20 gauge. I would not like to rely on only one when you have two....

                      • The other wire that's tapped up on the reg is for charging your battery through the reg, personally I wouldn't do that, I like to take the battery out to charge.

I am talking about the battery wires not the regulator wires.....
Edit..Sorry thought you were still talking about the battery.....

                          • Yes you are right to be on the safe side if the wire gauge is thin, I only use one wire on my outrage 5000mah battery, I'll have a look at the wire gauge on it, I think they were quite thick that's why I only used one but it's a good idea on using all the wires.

                            • Just to add to this if you look at the Optipower Rx pack the output wires are a lot thicker...

                              • Not much to add at the moment, been busy trying to finish the console. My dials etc arrived last week from the Czech Rep and I'm trying to work out how to drill the holes neatly.
Been painting the fuel pods and mounts also the fin and stabilizer,I think they just need another coat or two.
Also had to bin the Scot Gray Reactor as there was no voltage switch on top and it needed more cables so wasn't worth the extra money.
Ended up getting a YEP 20Amp Sbec so hopefully that will do.
