  • RC Aerodyne 500 AH-64 Apache Build

I thought I'd do a thread on my RC Aerodyne Apache build it may take a while depends on how much time I can get on it.
Fuselage RC Aerodyne AH-64 Apache desert colour at the moment but will be Green when I have finished.
Mechanics HK500-CTM, Align 4 blade head, Align 3gx flybarless controller with 2 Spectrum satellite receivers, Turnigy H3126-1300kv motor, Turnigy Trust 70A esc, HKS-9650 (swash) and HKS-9257 (Tail) servos I'm sure people will have their comments on this list

The first problem I had was the center plate did not fit in to the Main Gear that was supplied with the Fuz I had to remove about a 1/64th from the diameter of the centre. While I'm on the subject of Main Gear I was after some advice on pinion size I should use as the standard Main gear is quite a bit bigger than the one in the Kit so I will get a different gear ratio.

The quadrant in the kit for the tail linkages seemed to have a lot of slop so I decided to go for a snake push rod system held in place by a couple of blocks.

Next job is to install the 3GX and get the head set up

I would just drop the head speed unit the tail becomes too mushy or the controls aren't responsive enough for your liking and then up it just a bit from there. I do like slow head speeds on scale as it makes them respond more "scale like" and a high head speed just seems wrong.

Once you have figured out your ideal head speed, it's worth taking a look at the gearing and/or motor kv to see if you can get it running at about 70-80% throttle at that range. It will be better for your components and your battery life if you do so.

        Most importantly, enjoy!

As usual the simple/obvious answers are the best.
I also like more scale head speeds I will have a play with the head speed.

          Many thanks.

                    Very nice.

Do you have any plans for retractable undercarriage?

Allegedly, they are bringing out the Superscale 700 size Apache in August, and definitely got my eye on it for a first scale project.
The fus quality looks really good, is that the case?

                        Thanks for the comments.
It's taken a while getting the correct FBL unit for a 4 blade head and a workable setup.

Mike to my knowledge the Apache does not have a retractable undercarriage happy to be corrected.

I got the Fuz 2nd hand although it was new I and would have taken it back the undercarriage mounting points needed work to make the bent struts to fit.
The Exhaust ports were missing part of the moldings. It was original desert color which was a pain to paint over.

The Trex one way bearing would not fit in to the supplied main gear.
The raised tail needed a bit of work.

So as long as you don't mind the work then its worth it.
